Thank you for your candid review. I have an X3, which is one of my favorite cameras. Immediately after purchasing, though, I realized that the fragile lenses were the Achilles heel of what was being promoted as an action camera. There are lens guards for the X3, but I don't use them because of diminished video quality. Your review of X4 lens guards shows that the problems and tradeoffs persist. Because of the fragility of the X3 lenses, I treat it with far more care than any of my other cameras making me think that calling it an action camera is an oxymoron.

I purchased the cheaper guards. The glare is at times noticeable, but thankfully for me I'm not so focused on the quality of the image, but the quality of what I'm filming. Just yesterday I scraped some rocks and I'm glad I had the guards on, and I'm glad I pulled the shot off. Otherwise, without the guards, I would have avoided the shot. Thanks for the tips!

Awesome Video! Got a Brand new X4 & I used the Premium Lens Guard for an indoor car show. Your right was Terrible Footage from the lighting. Now I don’t film with them at all just put on when done with the Camera.

Recently dropped my x3 a few days after having to take off the lens guards which I never do and I about felt it in my soul and then had to see the scratch on the lens of the camera.... I'm so sad. Thought about talking to insta360 to see how long it would take to replace the lens and how much would it cost.

Great video. I’ve seen your previous lens guard durability tests as well. I have been using the x4 mostly on my previous trip and absolutely loved the results. I have been using the standard lens guards since back when I got the device I already have heard that the premium ones produce a lot of reflections and flaring. Although the standard ones are less durable, in my use case the risk of it dropping hard would be minimal. When using the X4 i always have it in a lens cover and would wipe the lensguards with a microfiber cloth to prevent shooting with dust particles. The standard guards did their job by keeping the lenses safe and the reflections + flaring kept to a minimum. This review just proved it for me that the standard ones will be sufficient for me. Thanks!

why is the premium glass guards bigger? does it have something to do about how glass and plastic refract light? ( thewy could always make plastic guards bigger if it was just for more protection)

Can the rain or condensation (fogging) get under the removable lense? If yes, then it will be better to taking then off in the rain.

Overall the lens guard are horrible. It has ruined my videos for sure! I am not able to find real glass lens guard, probally those are better?
