Good thing with the caddy 472 and 500s, even after 100k miles on it they'll still have cross hatch marks in the cylinders they rarely need a rebuild and they love a cam swap, 76cc closed chamber heads, an intake . Been building these Cad engines since the late 90s.

For 1970, Cadillac increased the stroke of the 472 to create an even 500 cubic inches (8.2 liters), initially as an Eldorado exclusive, producing 400hp and a massive 550-lbs ft of torque.

I love how they dont just LS swap everything.

The cast iron intake on my old 428fe weighed in at around 78lbs! Going aluminum brought the weight down to around 28lbs.

When I was working auto repair, a hearse would sometimes come in, and I would be the only person willing to repair it. The other guys were afraid that supernatural stuff might happen.

I used those shaft rockers on my 73, 472. They are the best thing since sliced bread! Save the original Q -Jet. They are good carburetors.

I would’ve replaced the main and rod bearings due to typical failure they get from years of using the wrong oil. But I like where they went with it, hopefully they won’t need to take it back apart anytime soon.

I had a Fleet of 10, 1968-72 Cadillac Fleetwood Limousines all with the 500cid engine. Never had any problems requiring the heads to come off. They had the double wall exhausts that would occasionally collapse after being driven through a deep cold puddle. Instant power loss if they still ran at all! Replaced all of them with single wall pipe. The other thing I did was delete the OEM fuel pumps and replace them with electric ones. They all had those damned Carter Thermoquads. Edelbrock to the Rescue! They drove beautifully. Better ride than a Roller. They were NOT fast!

I always love watching these shows and watching them build these old engines. It kind of reminds me as to how lucky we are now-a-days with the technological wonders that we have today that don't require a huge lope at idle with a high stall or a giant turbo in order to hit north of 400-500HP and gobs of torque everywhere.

I love how the comments are always full of people criticizing these guys like they dont know what they're doing.

I worked on a mint 76 Eldorado Biarritz last week with a 500 engine. Definitely was made outta steel front to back. Electric Green wouldn’t be my choice but different strokes I suppose.

That 500 sure would look good with a set of dual quads

Would like to see a full rebuild on a Cadillac 500 with what ever performance parts are available. Maybe Engine Power will do one in the future.

It was a serious engine back in 1970. It had 400hp. But it was reduced later to 200 because of the emissions regulations.

Really enjoying the Overtaker, because it’s not just the same old cookie cutter build that we’ve all seen so many time. Bring back Old Blue Hair!

I like that they are doing the original big block. But 500hp with 700 Tq isn't going to be quite enough IMHO. But it's fun to see what's going to happen. LOL. Love it!
