Cause and but are literally just conjunctions. They connect phrases that relate to each other. They serve a purpose. That’s like saying using a an or the is lazy 💀 if the two phrases have nothing to do with each other then ya it’s just a filler word, BUT if the phrase following is related to the first and builds on that idea then it is perfectly acceptable.

Depends on tue song and context imo. Taylor always writes like a poet but Adele has always written like she's having an actual conversation so it makes sense.
