From Wikipedia:: The iron pillar is not rusted because it was made of 98% wrought iron. Due to the presence of high amounts of phosphorus (as much as 1 percent against less than 0.05 percent in today's iron) and the absence of sulphur/magnesium in the iron are the main reasons for its remaining rust-free for a long time.

Not unlike sword smithing, these are protected basically intellectual properties of individual artisans that is predisposed to be lost to time, especially if not apprenticed or life circumstances plus general lack of written word, even among artisans spanning millennia and continents likely worlds🍀

is not rust free, is passivated because it has phosphorous coating due to the climate, and we are nearest in time to the pilar being made than the ones who crafted it to the start of iron working on india so more than 1800 years of experience before making it, so totally posible

I should build a pillar like that and just call it rust free and wait for all the tourists to arrive. They call that pillar rust-free, but I see rust.
