The impression I get from this is that it’s talking about someone who lives behind smokescreens, never letting others see the true them. As they go on in life, things seem to get cluttered, hard to tell what’s real and what isn’t about themself. They feel like they are tearing themself apart because of this.
The thing is that I relate to this a lot. I’ve had depression and social anxiety from a really young age, which derived from the feeling of being abandoned by my friends. As I’ve grown, it sometimes has felt like I am not myself, and can feel the pain and pressure for trying to be myself. Lately, I believe that I have begun to find my true self, but some of my habits die hard. I tend to change the way I respond to different people in occasionally drastic ways, like I have to stand out to someone to not be alone.
Don’t try to be someone else, or change yourself for others’ opinions or standards of you.
