Hi Matt, I just started carving a few months ago 10/22 and don't have any space inside or in the shed so I'm forced to carve in the great outdoors. I just relocated to Texas in 2019 and can only carve weather permitting and built myself an outdoor bench. I started with a Harbor Freight rotary tool and recently got a Dremel 4300 with a flex shaft. I have to move the bench around the yard to find shade as the Texas sun ☀ is kinda hard to be in all day. I love the more refined style of carvings that your working on and just got some walking stick size wood. I've never done it yet but I'm going to try the celtic style on the staffs. They should turn out pretty good because you have great tutorials. I'll have to keep on watching your videos. Thanks very much, Rich

Hey Matt! I've been using the Tacklife series since I started watching your videos 7 years ago!
The Tacklife is fairly good for medium projects, but it does run the risk of overheating. I've only had it happen a handful of times, but once it overheats you're looking to have at least 4 hours before the machine will turn on again. I also bought the Tacklife stylis and it's USB charged tool. It's fairly competent in small detailing.

I’m mostly working on metal (filing and polishing) and doing home DIY. I’ve been *thrilled* with my Dremel 4000. You had me pretty convinced to add a flex-shaft to my kit but I was going through my late father’s tools and found a small handheld battery Dremel (1100 I think?) that uses the same bits, so I’m going to see where that gets me first.

I use a work 12v multi tool cost me about £40 and ir is fantastic for smaller items engraving spoons. Mugs chopping boards etc. And it has a much smaller handle so it feels more natural in the hand. And WORX build good quality products and 3yr warranty usually. I researched power on dremel and they were all lower than this worx rotary tool I bought myself

I have a cordless Dremel 8100 that doesn't get pulled out very often. I make jewelry and do simple small wood and leather projects. I am getting more serious about turning hobbies into side hustle and am looking for tutorials to get the most out of my tools to turn out professional products.

I'm new at carving [and power carving]; what had gotten me into power carving was this past summer i bought a couple of Ryobi batteries for a drill i have and there just happened to be a sale going on w here they threw in another tool which i chose a 18v Cordless Precision Tool. It does a pretty good job; I may upgrade one day to something else.

would be cool if you'd made a jack of all trades type pick. I think wood working looks fun but DIY is definitely something i'd want from tool too.

Thanks for your vids. I'm just starting on my second ever project. You give me plenty of confidence for my future projects.

I have a Dremel Fortiflex. Invested in it when I started to learn how to carve. I love it! It's been going on 8 years or so ... The only downside I found is that the hand piece is still quite large, heavy and the cable is stiff ... I found that my hand was getting sore after holding it like a pen for too long. So I basically use it when I can hold it in my fist and support the work with my thumb (like when peeling a potato) ... I bought a Dremel 4000 with a flex shaft as a backup, which is easer to hold as a pen. So when I do precision carving, I switch to the flex shaft

Super nice videos, you help me a lot !
I would like your advice for wired one : I've only had the dremel 4250 for two months and it's already broken. I've tried to repair it but it's not possible. i'm asking myself to buy new one (or different model and which one ?) but after this 1st experience i'm not confident.
I work mainly with solid wood, only on small pieces like dry flowers vases, plates, spoon and contemporary sculpture.

Good review Matt. But I prefer a different order. 1st) What is your budget? 2) What kind of projects will you be doing? 3) How much will you be using it? But that's just my cheap Scottish butt speaking! Ha ha ha.

As for what tool I'm using? It's my dad's older Dremel with the flex shift that my mom and I got him over 20+ years ago. Still running fine but it probably needs a good cleaning!

I have had 3 Dremels in my life. An early Dremel black casing, lasted a long time, a battery operated Dremel, that lasted me three years, my latest is like 4 or 5 years a 4200 ( no longer sold ) it's a beast, but I'm looking for another battery operated tool but can't really see paying 125-150 $$$; at the moment I'm deciding between the Ryobi 18V or a WorkPro 12 V.

My second rotary tool; I was looking at the stylo, but it's no longer made found a clone of it by Hardell ( 22$ US ), 18v plug in with the motor in the stylis, had it a couple of weeks; and so far been fine. I used it to cut a small nail the 4200 couldn't fit in the tight area to do the job.

Every house needs at least one medium duty rotary tool for everyday stuff.

ETA: FYI, I have some dremel collets and 2 universals, all the collets < or = to the 1/8 fit, I tried one of the universal the lighter one and IT FITS!!! 👍👍.
Though I will never use it with this unit I also had a flex shaft adapter and that also fits, so now I can use some really tiny bits with this unit.

Bauer precision rotary tool for smaller more specific things that don’t require a lot of power. I’ve been very happy with its performance for 30-35$. Dremel 4k for everything else. I have really gotten a crazy amount of use with the Dremel 4k paired with the Dremel workstation unit.

This was so INCREDIBLY helpful to pick what I needed without buying something too costly or too cheap. I've spent loads on Dremel accessories/parts before, but models change, price points change and it was time for something new but... what? Looks like the 4000 w/flexshaft fits my needs without having to buy something super professional. Thank you. Cheers.

Just started to carve and I use a dremel stylo. I love it bc it’s small. I don’t think I could use a bigger tool to carve, I have small hands so the stylo seems perfect.

I just want to get started on some really small projects, and only really want the cheapest thing, although I want it to last for a very long time. Sounds like Dremel 3000 might be the one for me.

Hey man I am thinking about carving out a head board and bed frame. At least designs in them. Would you recommend the fortiflex. I feel like it is going to be a decent size project
