Swoole + PHP outperforms Node.JS quite a lot in my experience - A simple "Hello world" HTTP server with PHP + Swoole is almost an order of magnitude faster. Also PHP (when compiled with ZTS can offer true threading. And then of course the vast standard library that PHP has out of the box - especially when to the rather non-existant Javascript standard library, PHP shines again in my humble opinion....

PHP really pays my bills freelancing and I've never been happier.
Ofcourse I do know Node, Java and C# as well but still my heart belongs to PHP since it was the first programming language I started with.
Nothing against Node at all, I'm working on a Node application cause the client required and it's amazing but my main applications are built on PHP.

PHP has a far better Development Experience than most languages out there for a Web environment. Now, with a syntax closer to C# and TypeScript without most flaws from either language, there are large benefits in using PHP

My dev needs have always been more real than fancy, more use-case than fiction-case so PHP has always been a better fit

I use PHP because it's easy and forgiving. Javascript is a nightmare to code and you always have to add different packages depending on what you are designing.

All WEB development must consider reliability, security, maintainability, extensibility and lastly, performance - in this order.

Nothing more disgusting than a really fast WEB application that sacrifices any of the fore mentioned requirements.

I suggest we ask the PHP developers to consider building in the most desirable characteristics of node.js. Or add hooks to augment PHP with node.js - such as for event driven needs.

The reality is I, and likely other knowledgeable PHP developers, augment PHP with all kinds of stuff.
