Evaluate inverse trig functions without a calculator

👉 Learn how to evaluate the inverse of reciprocal trigonometric functions. Recall that the reciprocal trigonometric functions are given by the ratio of 1 and the corresponding trigonometric function. When an angle is unknown but the value of one of the reciprocal trigonometric functions of the angle is known, we can evaluate the value of the angle by first converting the given reciprocal trigonometric function to the corresponding trigonometric function and then using the inverse trigonometric function of the obtained trigonometric function.

For instance, if we know that sec x = a/b where x is unknown and a, b are known, then we an evaluate x by first expressing sec x = 1 / cos x = a/b, this means that cos x = b/a and thus x = arccos (b/a).

Wish teachers would stop using the unit circle, I need to know mathematically so when I am given something other than a super easy known angle I can do it.

What? Well, sure, Evaluations of known angles, but not what I'm looking for. that's memorization, might as well bring out the charts and slide rulers.

Where did you find the pi/6 initially?

•cos(x)=cos(-x) ....(1)
•cos(5π/6) "doesn't equal" cos(7π/5)
But: cos(5π/6)=cos(-5π/6)
"from the graf of cos function"

Thanks for doing it without a calculator. I’m doing a geometry book, but I’m only in 5th grade rn and my mom says I can’t use a calculator, unfortunately, and when I searched up videos on it like NONE of them said without a calculator but FINALLY someone who does it without it. Thanks
