ICJ rules Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal

Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal and must end, the United Nation’s top court has ruled in a landmark judgment.

The International Court of Justice ruled that Israel has abused its status as the occupying power in the West Bank and East Jerusalem with policies amounting to permanent annexation, including the building of settlements which it ordered to be evacuated.

The ruling, which is non-binding and advisory, is the first time the court has ruled on the legality of Israel’s occupation of the territories it seized control of during the 1967 Arab-Israel war. The case stemmed from a 2022 demand from the UN General Assembly predating the current conflict in Gaza.

Israel’s policies and practices, which the court said included the transfer of civilians to the settlements, building controls and governance render “Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territory unlawful”.

Pursuant to Article 59 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, (which Israel is a signatory of) the court's rulings and opinions are binding on the parties with respect to the particular case ruled on by the court.

The UK is obligated by treaty to enforce the findings of the ICJ and its agencies which means that Britain may have to impose sanctions on the state of Israel and its government members.

Hasn't Zionism been described as a hundred years war on Palestine. For much of the time the actions and attitudes of USA, UK and the West in general have been repulsive and contemptible. In 1948 there was the ethnic cleansing of 760, 000 Palestinians from their homes, towns and cities, followed by the destruction of 500 villages in the area that became Israel. In Israel's 1967 war there was the destruction of at least three more villages, Amwas, Beit Nuba and Yalu and hundreds of thousands more refugees and yet the likes of Geriatric Genocide Joe Biden and his accomplices Sunak and Cameron arm Israel for its genocide in Gaza and its attempted further ethnic cleansing of the people in Gaza. Thus the oppressed have become the oppressors aided by the genocide enabling West.

How can they claim Israel illegally annexed the West Bank from Palestinians when the territory was already being occupied by Jordan? This makes no sense, there were no people called Palestinians before 1967, of which the term was actually a synonym for Jews since Roman times, well before there were any Arabs in the region
