We're so privileged to be able to listen to any of the works of any composer from any era at any time. Imagine a time before having all of classical music instantly available, let alone recorded...

At my age, my father listened to Bach, every morning. And now every morning I can, through Bach, connect to his memory and love him the more for this memory of him.

Is anyone else awestruck by our good fortune that someone with so much music in him was productive enough to leave as much as he did for us to enjoy? Those don't seem to go together often.

Jean-Sébastien Bach est le seul musicien que j'ai écouté avec bonheur, avec amour et avec un émerveillemennt toujours intact, toujours neuf, tout au long de ma vie, depuis mon enfance jusqu'à aujourd'hui (68 ans).

Emotional, intellectual, spiritual, universal, beautiful Bach.

In times when I don't know who I am anymore, I come back to my first experiences with music and Johann Sebastian Bach guided me through my whole childhood. It brings such a clarity and melancholic peace to my soul and I instantly feel like all the chaos that life is sometimes is just gone or at least takes an understandable shape. Thank the universe for this, it saved my life a lot of times ❤️

Some 300 years later and we're still listening.
Still mindblowingly beautiful.

The painting was made by the German painter Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld associated with the Nazarene movement entitled Portrait of Klara Bianka von Quandt with lute, 1820, Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin. It's only fair to give the artist his due.

Every once in awhile, while listening to Bach’s stunning music played by incredible musicians, I give hearty thanks to Felix Mendelssohn’s memory for almost singlehandedly bringing Bach’s glorious music back to life and popularizing it again. It’s hard to believe that Bach was ever considered an old fashioned composer, when we can hear how timeless his music is!

Much credit here has been given to Bach--which is due--but not enough to the lutenist, Hopkinson Smith. What an amazing performer!

Just finished a crappy night-shift. Big drink indoors, loud Black Sabbath, food on, listen to this stuff. Beautiful.

My favorite part was when an ad that was twice as loud as the music suddenly started playing midway through a song.

Lute man myself. Used to play these off the violin scores. Easier for an amateur like me. These really are the best renditions I have been privileged to hear.
