Offerings and Donations | 3 Mormons

Mormons pay the ancient law of Tithing that is found in the Old Testament. Through paying tithing, members are promised amazing blessings.

With money from tithing paid by members, the LDS Church builds up the Kingdom of God on earth. This means Temples are built, Books of Mormon are printed, and the poor are given help, just to name a few things (there are many other ways the Mormon Church uses tithing money).

The LDS Church also has many businesses that they own that make profit. The Church then takes that money and uses it for building up the Kingdom of God just like tithing money is used.

When LDS Church members pay tithing they are given incredible blessings. In Malachi 3:10 it says: “… if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessings, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

When I got my first paycheck, I asked my dad whether I should pay 10% off of my net or gross earnings. What he told me has and always will stick with me: "Well, do you want gross or net blessings?" I absolutely LOVED that.

When I was first getting my temple recommend, I was afraid that my bishop wouldn’t let me because I don’t pay tithing (still in school, don’t have a job). I told him this, and he said “10% of nothing is nothing, ” and I’ve been a free loader ever since.

Good video explaining the reason for tithing! But there is one thing you didn't really explain. The church's secular businesses aren't paid from tithing but from the church's secular fund, which they have from their investments. So if that was nothing you, know that tithing only goes to things directly related to building the kingdom.

I have a question about what you said with giving even though you may not have the ability to or you simply cannot afford it. In this recent General Conference, one of the prophets (I don't remember which one I'm sorry, I'm new to this!) mentioned that when he was younger, his father had to choose between buying food for his family and tithing to the church, in which the final result was tithing to the church. I understand that blessings come from tithing, but when it comes down to it... feeding your children or giving money to a church seems like there is an obvious answer there. How do you justify that?

Malachi 3:8-10 was for the Isralite Nation. Please read Malachi 1:1. We are not under Jewish law! We are under the New Covenant that Jesus gave. Read 2 Corinthians 9:7. Also the fact that the law of Moses is not in effect for the Christian Church. Read 2 Corinthians 3

I just don't understand why it is necessary to pay tithing when there are families that need that $30ish out of their paycheck. I just don't understand why we have to have our taxes taken out and then the church demands 10%. I live in rexburg and like 80% of the students and none students struggle to make it by because of it. No one talks about it but everyone thinks it.
