This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Cadillac XT5 compact luxury SUV. The XT5 comes with two engines; our test model has the 3.6L V6 with a
9-speed automatic transmission, 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is standard on the Sport trim and available on the Premium Luxury trim. FWD and AWD are available on all trims. The base engine is a 2L Turbo 4-cylinder with 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims. The XT5 has a distinctive, bold grille that is sure to turn heads with sharp lines, curves in all the right places and jewel like headlights and taillights. The XT5 has a masculine exterior design with the 20” 12-spoke alloy wheels on our test model in Wilder Metallic making quite a statement. Although this Cadillac may not be for everyone, it seems to jump out at me when I see it on the road. Could it be the bold grille, the chrome accents or its unique style? Either or, it always seems to get my attention. The base Luxury trim comes standard with 7 airbags, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator, front and rear park assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and forward collision alert. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Premium Luxury trim, one up from the base model. Our test model with the top Sport trim comes standard with the 3.6L V6 engine. It has jet- black leather seating surfaces with mini-perforated inserts. You can get quite a few interior colours besides black including, Cirrus (cream), Maple Sugar (tan) and Kona Brown which look quite luxurious. The XT5 with the V6 comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, sunroof, power driver and front passenger memory seats, hands-free power liftgate and an 8-speaker Bose Sound System. You can upgrade to a 14-speaker Bose stereo system if you like. The XT5 interior is missing one key element; a larger display screen, this 8” touchscreen doesn’t cut it in the luxury market. I would like to see the 38” curved OLED display that is in the new Escalade or the 33” LED display in the Lyriq. Either of these screens would be a showstopper in the XT5. The 3.6L V6 Sport trim AWD starts at $56,398 CAD/$55,095 USD.
