This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Cadillac XT5 compact luxury SUV. The XT5 comes with two engines; our test model has the 3.6L V6 with a
9-speed automatic transmission, 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is standard on the Sport trim and available on the Premium Luxury trim. FWD and AWD are available on all trims. The base engine is a 2L Turbo 4-cylinder with 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims. The XT5 has a distinctive, bold grille that is sure to turn heads with sharp lines, curves in all the right places and jewel like headlights and taillights. The XT5 has a masculine exterior design with the 20” 12-spoke alloy wheels on our test model in Wilder Metallic making quite a statement. Although this Cadillac may not be for everyone, it seems to jump out at me when I see it on the road. Could it be the bold grille, the chrome accents or its unique style? Either or, it always seems to get my attention. The base Luxury trim comes standard with 7 airbags, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator, front and rear park assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and forward collision alert. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Premium Luxury trim, one up from the base model. Our test model with the top Sport trim comes standard with the 3.6L V6 engine. It has jet- black leather seating surfaces with mini-perforated inserts. You can get quite a few interior colours besides black including, Cirrus (cream), Maple Sugar (tan) and Kona Brown which look quite luxurious. The XT5 with the V6 comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, sunroof, power driver and front passenger memory seats, hands-free power liftgate and an 8-speaker Bose Sound System. You can upgrade to a 14-speaker Bose stereo system if you like. The XT5 interior is missing one key element; a larger display screen, this 8” touchscreen doesn’t cut it in the luxury market. I would like to see the 38” curved OLED display that is in the new Escalade or the 33” LED display in the Lyriq. Either of these screens would be a showstopper in the XT5. The 3.6L V6 Sport trim AWD starts at $56,398 CAD/$55,095 USD.

I love the XT5! I drove a cherry red one with the Sahara beige interior for the Cadillac dealership I worked for, as a chauffeur. Had the 3.6 engine and I was mesmerized! So comfy, so convenient! For a “grandma” car, it’s very well equipped and I personally think it handles like a sport SUV. I feel very grounded, and safe in it! I believe it had about 70, 000 miles on it, but with how reliable the engine was, you would think it came straight off the line. Very nice vehicle indeed.

I got the XT5 when it first came out (2017 version). This is the fourth Cadillac I've owned and (IMO) it is the best. This car has never been in the shop for anything but routine maintenance. One thing you failed to comment on is the front seat roominess. I am 6'2" and weight 315 pounds. This is the easiest car for me to get in and out of, hands down.. The others you mentioned (I have not tried the Genesis) are just too tight for a normal sized individual like myself. I highly recommend the XT5.

We have a 2018 XT5 just coming out of warranty this fall. The free maintenance is great. I'm going to miss that soon. The XT5 has been very reliable, in fact nothing has gone wrong with it in 4 years. We had some minor paint issues that were taken care of no problem. The only thing wrong with the 4-year warranty is that we didn't have to use it! The size is absolutely perfect for our use, it really sits right in between compact and mid-size. The V6 is the only way to go, agreed, GM don't get rid of it. I've driven the 4 cyl as a loaner when it was in for service and it's fine around town, good torque, but on the highway nothing beats the V6 for cruising and passing. Just less effort. I will say that the interior was cool in 2017 when it was launched, but it is showing it's age inside a bit. Looking at trading it in soon, and I'd buy another one no problem, but due to the interior feeling a bit dated I'll also be shopping around for sure.

Oh, and you Zack and Andrea, you two are the best. So many of the other reviewers are so biased and negative. Your channel is fun honest and make watching the review fun. Your reviews are like little episodes and less like an internet breakdown. If I'm looking for a review of a car I go to your channel first, then see what others say using your review as the achor. Keep up the amazing work!

Having only spent a mere day (highway and mostly gravel 150 kms?) with one a couple of years back... I was very very impressed. The weight of this Cadillac, I found, was one of its biggest assets. It felt solid and planted, it had great sound deadening and felt refreshingly bigger than it’s competitors. I would absolutely consider it. I have not been in the Lincoln yet. I’m not even certain I’ve seen the Genesis yet. But against the Audi or the Acura? Absolutely... for the right price. Thanks for the video. Great outfit... Andrea (obviously).

I've owned an XT5 for 4 years, it's been the best vehicle I've owned by far. Great review guys!

Cadillac XT5 is a MIDsize Crossover. It is on GM's C1XX (Chi) platform shared with Cadillac XT6, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and Chevrolet Blazer

Andrea, one of the first things I look for are ventilated front seats and rear heated seats so I agree with you!! I am wondering what is new in the 2022 XT5, looks the same, so maybe that is the last model year?

Andrea… the driving experience is the main thing. The screen and other gadgets are fluff…. More electronics to break. Give me buttons and knobs any day. I want that V6.

I have a 2020 Prem Lux XT5 AWD, loaded and I couldn't agree more about the vented front seats and rear heated, so disappointing, but still I LOVE my XT5 it's a fine Caddy!

Excellent review again. I would take this XT5 over the competition, and yes ventilated seats!

Always a good discussion. XT5 is tempting but the included maintenance is a strong positive.

I own a 2017. Good car but the screen is tilted forward so the overhead sun can wash it out. On the positive side, I had some repair issues and Cadillac customer service was first class, covering something out of warranty and getting me a 30% discount on the other repairs. Totally unexpected and they were first rate.

I bought a 2011 SRX Performance Edition in 2020. It only had 18, 233 miles on it. I bought it because it was in excellent shape. When I purchased it I bought a Cadillac extended warranty for 2 years. Let’s just say everything that could go wrong went wrong with it. The warranty paid for a lot of it but I’ve also paid thousands of my own money every 6 months just to keep the damn thing running like it should. Every 6 months something goes wrong

The steering wheel is fine and so is the screen.
I leased the model you are testing for 1, 199USD due at inception (including first month’s payment), 12K miles, 36 months and 479USD per month.
What else can you get for those numbers?

Nice review. That V6 engine is tried and true in Cadillac. I had a CTS VSport which had that engine with the twin turbos. Never had a problem. The maintenance plan is a great bonus.

I think Cadillac should keep the V6 as it’s probably smoother & quieter then a 4 cyl. Don’t care about screens, rather have all 6 gauges . One screen in the middle is fine . Very good review !!
