iPhone X is not for those who love and honor Steve Jobs's legacy. iPhone 8 Plus is as good as it'll get this year for us, but it may be the last iPhone I get. "Switching" to Android? Not easy.

Why not simply switch to Android? (1) Ecosystem, ecosystem, ecosystem. It's not as simple as a single device (or simply hardware), anymore. (2) Privacy. Google's business model is user-hostile. (3) Support. Walk into a Google Store. You can't. (4) Focus. How many Google / Android products have been abandoned within a brief span of time? What's Google's long-term strategy for devices? For software? For services? For a comprehensive experience?

The 8 Plus is a near equal to the X for features without the notch and software turdbar mess

Landscape mode is actually usable, portrait mode is still fine

I keep seeing people applauding Portrait Mode on the X - but it's on the 8 Plus (minus front)

Animoji? Gimmick. The Snapchat face thing they demoed works just as well on an old iPhone

Screen experts have been suggesting that the X screen Could be PenTile

iOS continues forward with slop

As a design consultant to large corporations; the sad part of all this is that Apple no longer listens to key people. Last time I got in touch with one of their product designers during the time of iPhone 6 - the person resigned from Apple due to the frustrations of quality over whatever they are doing in there.. the design team no longer reports to Johnathan but to Tim directly (which in my opinion is part of the problem).

The frustration as a design consultant who can't un-see alignment, kerning and other UI/UX issues within ios is something i can't express. If i didn't see a similar response from a good few other people in the industry i'd have gone mad by now.

I wouldn't mind paying the $1000 if it meant the quality. If i pay for a Rolls Royce i expect that exceptional quality and experience; don't bloody give me a toyota with a Rolls Royce logo.

I’m sticking with my iPhone 7 Plus and maybe next year it’s back to android for me. I think the iPhone 8 is just like my iPhone 7 and the iPhone X sucks with that notch and no Touch ID.

First off, your voice is fine. In fact, you're fun to listen to. Secondly, thank you for being honest. I've been frustrated with Apple products for a few years now, and I've used Apple long before it was "cool". Now the moment I disagree with a clunky software change, everyone comes out of the woodwork to defend the Apple "virginity"! I'm tired of this "Apple can do no wrong" mentality these days. So I appreciate you being honest and calling a turd a turd...and the turds that Apple has made in the late are starting to pile up. I hope they smarten up and I hope they watch your videos.

In my personal opinion Apple's claim of a "edge to edge screen" is a lie and a joke. If you want a true edge to edge screen the Note 8 is what you want to look at.

when you were batching os x basically saying that  windows was better and while you were doing that, you got a blue screen of death, and eventually you switched to a mac, and when the first iPhone was announced, you basically said you were never going to buy one, 10 years later you are using one, being a fan of yours, and looking at your history, you WILL get a new iPhone next year, and the year after that, and when that happens, I will come back to this comment and say "I told you so".

Sticking to my 6S as long as possible... Every other iPhone after that feels like a downgrade to me... Even-though wireless charging would be nice, not having a headphone jack or a clickable home-button is just anoying...

Your thoughts are shared by far more than you think, Chris. After comparing the two phones, my immediate choice was the 8 Plus as well, although for some different reasons one of which being that I currently use a 6 Plus and I have come to love Touch ID; not too keen on the whole Face ID especially based on the different glitches in IOS as of late. Speaking of IOS/glitches, I've noticed over time that my phone (and to a greater extent, my iPad mini 4) have far more glitches/crashes than a five year old iPad 4. As you stated, QA at Apple has gone significantly downhill over the last few years. When it comes to considering alternatives, there's a lot to consider. I used Android smartphones and tablets before switching everything to the Apple ecosystem and honestly I'm not interested in, or considering switching back. Decisions, decisions...come on Apple

Oh wow, that last comment, PLEASE start a podcast! I've watched your videos since I think one you did on a Snow Leopard upgrade, and your commentary on technology is great.
