Even very complex patterns can often be recognized by flash fill if the user is creative/strategic in giving examples. I use it a lot and continue to find new ways to feed it patterns. It has become sort of a game.

The first time you demonstrate this to the, er, ‘uninitiated’, they will act surprised or perhaps just amused. The best way is to sneak it in in some seemingly difficult cleaning or transformation exercise where it’s “just” some intermediate step, and you’re guaranteed to hear some jaws drop.
BTW: Power BI / Power Query has an allegedly even more powerful version of it, with the added advantage that it will create the corresponding formula for you: quite handy (if it works).
