Ray Harryhausen's idea of including giant animals as part of the setting, plot, and mystique of the Mysterious Island, ironically enough, is not part of the original story by Jules Verne (which had very little in the way of what we'd consider science fiction today, being more of a traditional Robinson Crusoe adventure/shipwreck story than sci-fi adventure).
And yet every interpretation of Mysterious Island since this version with Harryhausen's special effects have always included either giant animals or prehistoric animals, even though the original story never called for it.
