Omg finally we are talking about this! The greeks and romans would be horrified at the "naked" sculptures! We need to restore the colors, at least as a picture beside the original ♥️

It's worth noting that not all of these statues were painted, there are murals in Pompeii that show statues both painted and unpainted.

I wonder how much of the aesthetics of "classiness" and intellectualism would be different if everyone knew this (throughout history) and had seen these kinds of sculptures in their full color as much as in white. I wonder if more Renaissance sculptures would have been painted, and if our academia aesthetics would be more colorful today.

The MET in NY currently have an installation where full size replicas of some of the statues have been produced and painted according to archeological studies. Its quite striking to see in person.

i know the Statue of Liberty was copper to start with and naturally tarnished. It's beautiful and couldn't imagine it not green and beautiful. maybe these are having their own season of color or lack of.

This also blew my mind, I can’t imagine these colored statues all over the pace. Imagine this with our statues today, example the statute of liberty totally colored. Bizarre to think about.
