In this quick video I show how you can make easy door latches from square metal pipe and rod, for doors opening to the side, and metal catches for sliding doors. Quite easy and straight forward construction, you don't realy need a lot of information to set it up.
The square pipe needs to be 20x20mm and the inner locking latch is a 17x17mm rod. The smaller rod fits inside the 20x20mm pipe making a nice setup that can work as a simple latch. You insert a piece of 20x20mm pipe into the wall on the face of the lock, and the locking mechanism is done.
Avoid setting up the face on a separate vertical piece of metal, so that it won't pose any danger for cars that might want to enter from the door. Place the locking face pipe into the wall. It's safer.
The same consept works for the sliding doors. You only need to make a hook on the sliding door, that catches the loop on the face of the door, and you're done.
Make sure to have roller guides on the sliding door, to keep it from falling over in case it is moved to the side for any reason, and allways place a stopper at the end of the rail.
They are so simple you don't need to lubricate them at all.
