The premiere of Verdi's opera 'Aida' at the Mariinsky-2

In February 2025 the Mariinsky Theatre staged a new large-scale production of Verdi's Aida. Around 300 people are taking part in the performance in large-scale scenes at the same time. Director Giancarlo Del Monaco said: “We have one hundred and forty chorus singers! In the finale of the second act we have three hundred people, it's a triumphal march, a triumph! You can't limit yourself to a small march. I was inspired to stage this scene by the Victory Parade on Red Square in 1945”.
The setting of the opera creates the atmosphere of ancient Egypt - gloomy and solemn. Dark colors, huge statues and many hieroglyphs were used on the stage.
Aida staged by Italian director Giancarlo Del Monaco was a huge success, and the next performances will be held in March 2025.
