Jaguar have always made a big GT car, such as the E-Type, the XJS and the XK. Five years ago they stopped making the XK and as yet haven't replaced it. Is the XKR Supercharged the last of the best? Should you buy one? Let's find out...

My wife and I have been eyeing for an XK for several months and 2 weeks ago a 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition with less than 50k miles hit our nationwide radar search. I drove 500 miles to see her the next day and drove her home. Neither of us have stopped smiling about this car since. 😍

Loved this video, spot on. I miss my XKR but as a daily driver, the car had to go after a year. But if I'm honest, I think I made a mistake. Yes, the car has a tendency to want to kill you if you don't treat it with respect, 1 in 5 times filling up someone will compliment the car (which is great but you will always be noticed), for an older car you still worry where you park it. It costs a fortune to run. The car taught me that I wasn't the driver I thought I was and should consider advanced training. Or that the 0-60 was irrelevant as the car's power was in its ability at 80-???. It becomes part of your life, an attachment. Not all these points are negatives by any means quite the opposite, but I don't think I was expecting all these points when considering ownership. Nieve? Probably.(i certainly prepared for the fuel, insurance and tyres).
But the car is so alive and every trip felt like an event. However, before all cars like this reside themselves to museums and pictures in classic car books. When I'm driving around in an electric car as everyone will be. At least I will be able to show my grandkids that grandad had a full-fat V8 that sounded and drove like at any minute it would pull off the road and eat a flock of sheep.

The Jag XK's are probably the most beautiful car ever designed. I agree with everything you say about it, but I still want one.

Brilliant review. As a petrolhead myself the feelings you have towards this motoring icon are exactly what I thought . No matter how much a car is flawed the personality of it will always shine through . Subscribed !!

I have the 2010 XF 5.0 Supercharged. I absolutely love it. 10 years old, still outperforms most cars on the road, even while weighing 4000+lbs. Beautiful vehicles, that are also bad ass.

I love you starting off with the negatives. I'm just smiling and nodding like "yeah that's all true and I just don't care." Love this car. =)

Thanks for your review. I own a 2014 XK-R convertible in white with blue interior and top. I’ve continually been searching for a replacement vehicle. I’ve tried the DB11, Portofino, 911, Bentley GT, Maserati, SL63, M6. None of them resonated with me like the XKR. I felt so happy when I got back in my car like I was home again. Your video gave me the reason I was looking for. Charm and charisma.

I have an F430, c4s, 598GTB, AM Vantage, M6, and an XKR. If you roll the first 5 cars together you would have an XKR except the XKR would be a lot more comfortable. Easy to maintain, gorgeous and bullet proof. Oh yeah, it's a great daily driver!

I drove one of these a couple days ago, a late 2007 XKR Convertible (with somewhat tevised front). What amazed me most was not the 420 horses, leather and wood etc, but the COMFORT! I’m 6’3 and actually found the seats very comfortable and I also had enough head- and legroom. Besides it was amazingly easy to drive - and of course scaringly fast if pushed (0-60 about 5 seconds). I loved it!

Got a 4.2XKR only 420bhp but sounds great and goes like stink. Got 26mpg on trip to North Wales in traffic. I Love it.

You are so right, no comparison with the F-Type. I drive an 09 XK and it is definitely the most comfortable car I’ve ever driven. My previous car was a Merc SL which was way too hard and uncomfortable. I can drive this car on long drives and I arrive as if I’d only just left. Never get tired of driving it.

My 2007 (56) 4.2 XKR is my daily, I love it and so do my two children. Spot on with comfort, last year we drove Geneva to UK in on day, I could have turned round and driven back without any issues, the guys we drove with in Porsches and lambos were less comfortable.

Beautiful car, one of the prettiest ever made in fact. Sounds like a muscle car, drives like an Aston Martin or better, 550 Bhp to the rear wheels, its still comfortable and reliable. Whats not to like?

Love this review, honest, captivating and enjoyable. I drive 4.2XK as my daily drive and it never fails to make me smile. From opening the door to sitting snug in the drivers seat and then the first start, V8 sound just wow. The styling is just perfect from all sides, but especially from the rear. I am never going to change - why would you. 👍

Owner of the 4.2l and agree with a lot of what you say - thoughts are:
-32y/o and insurance is £280 a year (think that is a bargain)
- Jag have a fixed price servicing on the XK which keeps costs down and let’s you know what you’re letting yourself in for- but a service is easy to do yourself
- only things gone wrong with mine in 7 years is an abs sensor (thought to be lack of use) and an earthing nut for the front headlight - outside of wear and tear items, that’s a cost of £7.80 in 7yrs!

Downsides:
If not using daily, get a good battery conditioner (not charger)
Never use the boot on long trips as if you need the spare wheel you will have to make a choice to leave the 20” wheel, your luggage or the boot floor/liner at the roadside.
20” senta wheels bend if you blow on them
Aluminium body work is prone to corrosion (not rust like steel)
Underside rusts out quite quick so think of rust converters.
Earlier 4.2 models were less well equipped in terms of media and had an 80’s aerial - but I tend to just listen to the burble from the back and grunt from the front

Except for that, I enjoy every second of mine

You can open passenger door with the the blade key on UK car. Boot key resets infotainment unit, useful if you put into valet mode and forget the Pin. Love my XK, it the first car that makes me happy 😊

All the negatives are from people that don't understand and appreciate a positive and honest review from a top-notch reviewer. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't …” … please all the people all of the time”👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

I've had my 2008 XKR Portfolio coupe for 6 years now and I love it. It has the 420 hp supercharged engine which is just about the right amount of horsepower. It is not as intimidating as the newer 510 horsepower models. It handles quite well on spirited drives through the mountain passes of British Columbia and the wide open spaces of Nevada and Arizona. I use this car for extended road trips rather than a daily driver in the city. As these cars become less common, their classic styling will ensure that they will be highly collectable. If you can find a low mileage. well maintained example, buy it!
