That list is quite impressive, but the one that got me was know how hard it was to get a Pineapple during wartime in Nazi Germany during WW2? but he got it.

Very impressive black market network the Pfefferberg dude has.

Even today, a gift basket is a very thoughtful present.

As someone who works in wholesale, Schindler is a master salesman

I love how Spielberg has Liam Nielson narrating this scene but the person reading the letter is one of the SS brass clerks.

I like how he even sent them a picture with them just in case they forgot who the hell he was

Just goes to show that there is always someone who can get you what you need.

Even the top-middle brass doesn’t have access to those, specially during war time.

I did some research and while it is subjective this is what I came up with modern day inflation taken into consideration. A couple things also to consider is that some of these item were extremely rare in 1940, Like Nylon Stockings were a new thing back then and finding fresh fruit in Germany was a real task.

The Schindler Gift Basket

-Boxed Tea-$90
-Coffee-$100
-Pate Foie Gras-$120
-Kielbasa Sausage-$30
-Cheeses-$65
-Beluga Caviar-$600
-German Cigarettes-$15
-Oranges, Lemons, Pineapples-$30
-Cuban Cigars-$250
-Dark Chocolate-$12
-Hennessy Cognac-$40
-Dom Perignon Champagne-$300
-L’espadon Sardines-$45
-Nylon Stockings-$30

You don’t see this side of the war in film that often. Wish more films showed it.

Interesting fact:

The man Oskar Schindler is asking to get him the items Poldek Pfefferberg. He is the one who convinced Spielberg to make a movie about his experiences with Schindler during the Holocaust. He knew Spielberg because he was friends with his mother.

It's even easier to spend money when funds belong to the government but you get the side goodies.

Based on this scene alone, I tried Hennessy. I thought it tasted like what gasoline should taste like 🤮
