felt this when it happened. was chilling and my bed began to shake, thought one of my cats was under the bed, but it kept shaking, stood up and the house was shaking

In the last hour we have had a 5.9 and a 6.8 in the same area - nothing further north at this stage. The 5.9 was just 12 minutes ago. No tsunami warnings. We're up in Auckland but we're feeling for those down south.

I’m close to the south coast, Invercargill, didn’t feel it but my neighbour did and has damage to the cladding of her house. We had tsunami warnings on cell phones go off. Seems to be random who felt it and who didn’t.

Living in the southern coastal region of nz and definitely felt the big rolling tremble, cookwares shaking on top of shelf. thought it was a dump truck going past but in fact an earthquake. Then we received Tsunami warning — evacuation not required but need to keep a close eye on this one. Quite shocked to know it’s a 7 pointer.

My sister in law is traveling in NZ right now! She’s on a cruise. Somewhere around South Island!

I live at the very bottom of the South Island in Western Southland. I was cleaning at the time and sadly I didn’t feel it. Those who did said it was a slow but long jelly-like shake. Emergency Alerts sounded on our phones which was pretty alarming! I’m preparing a bug- out bag tonight just in case .

GEONET earthquakes reports for NZ today:
6.8 at 12km deep, 14:43NZDST, 155km NW of Snares Island followed by a 5.0 at 12 km deep 15:56NZDST in the same place, followed by a 2.4 at 10km deep, 5km east of Seddon (further up the South Island on the East Coast) 18:16NZDST. There have been 6 earthquakes registered on Geonet today, starting at 01:15NZDST this morning

33km deep on geonet, and 6.7 now. Does not sound to bad by all accounts, didn't feel a thing at the top of the south island

Yea, felt it here in Tuatapere...everything in the house was shaking the cat and 3 dogs were looking at me with a confused look...the barking started when it ended😊We had a tsunami warning..we are 7km from coast just below Fiordland.

I live in NZ in the South Island about 3/4 hour drive from Queenstown in a town east of there called Cromwell. Yes I did feel it as a gentle swaying movement. I was sitting down and thought to my self " I don't feel good" and looked up to see the lamp over the dining table swinging back and forth which then made me realise that it wasn't me but the ground moving. LOL Geonet which is New Zealand's offical Natural Hazards watchdog had it on their website as a Mag 6.8, 12kms deep and 155km NW of Snares Island.
