When you're putting your hand directly over the plate, you have absolutely no-one to blame but yourself.

This one doesn’t even need a rule it’ll police itself. Eventually coaches will realize getting a handful of strikes at the cost of your elite catcher ISNT WORTH IT

Batting coaches will now instruct batters to stand at the inner most corner and extend their swing, thus knocking all eligible catchers out of the game by the 3rd inning.

Tennis did hawk eye.
Soccer did VAR.
All the technology is available for baseball already. Time to evolve.

"After my hand recovers, I'm still doing it"
*Gets his hand hit again*
"You can't make quit doing what I am doing"
*Gets hit again*

This feels like an “actions, meet consequences” moment

This reminds me of an ancient proverb I was told by a 300yo monk. Im trying to remember it correctly, but if I recall, it went something like, "You can't fix stupid."

the guy clearly was about to hit the ball if not for his hand blocking it!
I have no idea about the rules, but isnt it like intefering?

Wait, you're telling me that standing closer to the guy swinging a bat will increase my chance of getting hit? Wild

Yeah, that’s the point when I stopped playing baseball when my coaches were telling me to stand directly underneath the batter to the point where I knew they were going to hit me

"He is going to set up in the exact same place." 😂 He has more bones to crack.

MLB has high tech pitch detection but still uses umpires that often make bad calls.

Love how we have the technology to confirm whether a pitch is a ball or strike but we continue to use a person standing in a less than optimal position to determine it for us.

"we won the game"
"At what cost?"
"We have no catchers"

Crazy, it’s almost like having a robo-ump calling balls and strikes would not only be far more accurate than human ump, but it would prevent injuries from guys trying to trick the susceptible human umps.

You can even see in that frame of the bat smashing his hand that the batter would have hit the ball 😂

"Hmm, I'm going to stand as CLOSE as I possibly can to a bludgeoning tool swinging at ~70+MPH. What can possibly go wrong?" It's like they didn't think about how every single batter has a different wingspan from the last and that there's a real possibility they'll get cracked by the by fucking bat. It's not like their catching arm is their career and lifeblood or anything

My friend is an umpire and he's being taught to pretend the catcher isn't there and just watch the ball over the plate (to the extreme cause this has always been taught) or to pretend the catcher's glove is DIRECTLY over the plate to avoid bias and sneaky catchers that think they can trick an umpire.

Why doesn't the catcher just stand a few metres in front of the batter? Then he'll never be hit.
