We played this song on my brothers funeral 3 years ago. It was the last video my brother shared on his facebook before he died, he loved Gary Moore and Thin Lizzy and his name was also Johnny so he had a special fondness for songs with "Johnny".. My brother Johnny was only 49 years old.

This song is written to Philip Lynott. Phil often referred to himself as "Johnny" and Gary made this as a tribute to Phil after he passed away in 1986.
The song still gives me tears in my eyes, thinking about the close relationship between Lynott and Moore. Such a warm and heartful tune! Great tribute to the black rose of Ireland and king of music - Philip Lynott!

I've played electric and acoustic guitar for almost 60 yrs and I've learned a lot from GM and other notables but his range of styles in his music is just amazing. Thinking of this tune juxtaposed with Still Got the Blues or others, both are masterpieces in their own right and just shows his talent range. I'm switching to acoustic this evening to play this song. RIP Gary Moore. There won't be another like you man.
