Dedicated to Professor Harry Brighouse and Philosophy 557 at UW-Madison.

In March 2020 the orchestra were supposed to play Wisconsin Union Theatre in Madison.

In 2018 a couple of students came to our show after their Professor recommended us to them. When our 2020 show was announced those students and their professor convinced the rest of their senior class to get tickets so they could all attend the show together. Then Covid 19 meant the tour was cancelled and the students had to cut their final year short and go home to finish their degrees remotely.

Harry Brighouse contacted us to tell us how great his students are and how disappointed they were at not getting to see us live. He asked we dedicate our next song to his class.

We then received an email from his class saying how much they respected Professor Brighouse and could we dedicate our next song to him.

Those that follow the orchestra know that we don’t do requests but this time we decided to make an exception.

Head over to our Ukulele Lockdown page to find all the latest Lockdown content and music sheets!

Five minutes of brilliant sunshine in a uncertain world. Special effects out of this world - no expense spared.

Thank you so much. I had no idea they'd written to you and, obviously, they had no I idea I had written. When we're all out of this I hope you'll be coming back to Madison: some of the students will no doubt still be here, and I'll make sure we get a good contingent along!

For anyone like me who didn't know: this is a Tom Waits song, from "The Heart Of Saturday Night" (1974). Continuing "The Ukes"' fine tradition of unexpected cover versions, and making the songs their own...

Kudos to the assistants sailing the ships, flying the seagulls, and swimming the fishies & whale.
Oh! And the octopus! (Cracken?)

I was just going through the Lockdown playlist, listening to a few favorites and then this one came up....and suddenly, I am missing my wife, who passed away Nov 30, 2022, from COVID-related causes. The song captures what it felt like, so beautifully. Thank you.

Didn't see this one coming. Lovely version and all credit to Hester for such beautiful singing and, as ever, all the various lunacies from everyone in the Ukes. I'm sure all we ukesters look forwards each week to the next in this series of lockdown performances. Must also say, all the individual tours of personal collections of ukes is proving to be really interesting. Many thanks to everyone concerned - including Doug and Laura.
Now can someone hand Hester a towel please?

This is such a delight! I love the extra visual effects by little hands just barely offscreen, waving fish, birds, ships and some sort of sea monster. Lovely voice, Hester! Loved seeing your daughter during the "water's my daughter" line. Even now that the lockdowns are over, it's a wonderful and lighthearted rendition of a soulful song.

Such brilliant, long-range thinking for Richie to have cultivated his sea captain look just for this moment!

I've lost count of the number of times I've played this, everything about it is just brilliant. Hester's singing, the musical arrangement, the special effects :-) and a great song from Tom Waits combine to produce 4 minutes of absolute joy.
