Thank you. I couldn't decide, so bought both. I don't agree that the foot shapes are identical. My Olympus 5 interiors are wider than my LP 7.

I tried Lone Peaks but was getting bruised feet on the rocky trails here in So Cal and the Eastern Sierras, changed to Olympus and have been very happy

Great review, thanks! I have both, I wondered why my feet hurt with the Olympus and not the Lone Peak. I'll only be using the Olympus for less technical flat trails from now on, thanks for the insight.

This is a very deep comparison between the Lonepeak and Olympus
Very useful to me as I love my Lonepeak 4's but need a new pair as the soloes are showing signs off over us 650 miles in my Lonepeaks
So I've been advised to try and pair of Olympus 5's and love your experience in them - I need them for a Ultra run in Snowdonia so lots of technical and soil / rock
Many thanks for the fact the Olympus has more my feet need it (growing older) thanks again Jaspar

I got the Olympus 5 and they were tight and ran about a half size short for my normal size 10. Returned them and got the lone peak 8 in a size 10 and they fit so much better.

Excellent review. I have used the LP 5 and now the Olympus 5, both for long-distance walking with a 10 - 13kg backpack. I prefer the Olympus 5 for their increased cushioning on longer hikes. I very much agree with you, they are more forgiving on the downhills and suit a greater variety of terrain which you are bound to encounter over the course of several 100 km. What the Olympus 5 are terrible for is wet grass / bog / moorland. They have absolutely no grip on that terrain. I may as well be walking on an ice rink. I normally walk with poles which mitigate this issue but it is something to keep in mind depending on the terrain you plan to use them on.

That sounds fair. With the Olympus 5 anyway as I don’t have a Lone Peak. One thing I don’t like about O5 is the fact the sole is not a continuous sheet of vibram but rather a series of glued on cleat like nubs and sometimes a small amount of water can get into the spaces causing an incessant squeak.

I loved the olympus 5 from the first km. Just bought a second pair after 450 km on the first one. I have finished a couple of 40km trail races on them, soon on a 75. Still no cushion issues

Excellent comparison, Thanks so much!

For me, the lone peak sole wore out on my second hike/run. The sole on the Olympus lasted, but the cushion collapsed around mile 250.

great review Jaspar, thanks for sharing.
Which would you recommend for distance hiking, as opposed to running?

I just bought the olympus 5 for winter tennis on hard courts ( tennis shoes have poor grip when it is damp). They were 65 quid delivered with 10% off for some reason. The thicker sole should be good for accidental hard tennis landings. I already know trail running outer soles work best on damp tarmac. Full on barefoot shoes are terrible for tennis, they just buckle up underfoot and trip you up. I need the wide toe box of altra. Hope i am not disappointed✓.

if you could help me with something. does the men/women versions of the olympus 5 have any differences other than the colours? thank you, great video!

Great review. Thanks for all the info. Question: how is the sizing between the two? In other words, if I have a size 13 in the LP 7, will a 13 in the Olympus 5 be the same for my foot? I just bought the LP 7. I know, the 8 is out now. My wife got those. But the 7 was on sale for me. Now I want to pick up the Olympus 5. I will be using these for my hiking shoe. I'm planning on buying them online, so that's why I want to know if I can get away with buying the same size as I bought with the 7's. Thanks
