I just want to say, I’m returning to this video after about a year of practicing singing using this method. Not only did I notice an immediate improvement myself, but within weeks my friends were all telling me how much my singing had suddenly improved. A few months in, I noticed my ability to tune my guitar by ear has been improved dramatically, and now I constantly get compliments about my singing that I can tell are much more genuine than the simple “politeness” I had received before. Thanks Aimee, I owe you a lot for this one, and to anyone discouraged by the difficulty of this exercise (at first I felt like I had no control and I couldn’t do anything about my flatness or sharpness), like anything else in music, if you keep dedicating the hours you will come out successful.

So this is what I learned from the app. No one in my family learned to sing or play an instrument. Sure we could play a record player or cassette tape. I have always wanted to learn sing or play an instrument. Finally at age 58 I am going to learn. All I want to be able to do is sing one or two karaoke songs. Been watching several youtube videos and ran into this one. This is what I found out using the app. I am a bass. That sure answers the question of why I would try to sing an 80's pop song and people would ask me to stop! Thank you.

I was really only searching for a vocal tuning app video as I fid myself singing off pitch, and you have found the best one for me...
So this is my first viewing of your videos and I find your style and presentation so very interesting and watchable....
So I've checked out a few of your others and now I am one of your biggest fans... Thank You

I think amazing thing is not this app but your ability to sing right on note at first attempt and doesn't need even single note to reference.

Also the InsTuner is really useful with the Strobe View. Anytime I start getting cocky with my pitch all it takes is about 30 seconds trying to lock that strobe dead center and I am once again humbled. It is a great warmup to go from your lowest note to highest note in your vocal range ... locking the strobe into not moving... taking your time with each note... and seeing how long you can hold that note with the strobe locked in the middle. It is painfully humbling but immensely useful for ear training and teaching yourself to sing on pitch.

Thank you Aimee, you are by far the best musical instructor on YouTube! The piano and voice lessons are fantastic and you're the first one I've come across that teaches how to play by ear! That is what I've been finding so challenging for so many years and your guidance has helped tremendously!
I love that you are able to get your lessons across in a very effective and caring way. Your kind and graceful approach is very helpful for those of us who have the burning desire, but lack the raw musical talent that few are gifted with. You are very inspiring and your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Just found this and wow! I've been using tuners with jumpy needles for ages, and the wheel display really makes a difference. Now that I can actual see my microtuning, I'm really curious about voice exercises to sharpen and flatten pitch in a narrower range.

Per your suggestion, I have been working with this app in combination with recording my warm-ups and rehearsals for about six months now and have greatly improved my pitch issues. Oh its far from perfect, but I can tell by the reaction of the audience and other musicians that they can hear the improvement.

This video is just awesome, Aimee. Using the app, for the first time in years, was able to find my vocal range. I'm an Alto :) And now that I have a keyboard piano, I can now learn to match pitch. I've always had trouble knowing exactly what key I am singing in, but now I can learn to sing pitch perfect. Thank you so much. :)

Thanks Aimee,
I did it and in one try, I my voice improved. I'm a new singer, but the app really helped me feel by breath control and cord closure. After a while I got a bit fatigued, and then I stopped belting out my same old blown-out, rough sounding tone and everything settled down (with me concentrating on getting the pitch right on) and my breath settled down and the cords found new closure and finesse and I actually started to make a real singer tone. It was really cool. Thanks a ton!

This is good stuff. In addition to practicing with an electronic tuner, it is valuable (even essential) to practice with drones.

If you put on a set of headphones and hum (don't sing, hum) a unison, octave, fifth, major third, minor seventh, major ninth, minor third, etc, with an overtone-rich drone (like those in Stephen Colley's "Tune Up" program), you will train your ear to sing intervals that slot properly with the chord.

Against the root of a chord, fifths need to be slightly sharp, major thirds need to be flat, minor sevenths need to be VERY flat, etc. Because of this, it is very important to practice humming with drones in headphones, as this isolates the sound as it reverberates in your head.

I am an Android user and I like to use Pano Tuner. If you watch the Britians Got Talent clip with the Deaf woman singing and playing the Ukulele, you will see that is what she uses as well. Aimee, you may not like it because it is jumpy like the others, but I like that has the option to display the soulfege (do re me fa so la ti do) instead of the note names. You have to be sure to select the transpose and transpose it to the key in which you will be singing for the soulfege to be correct, but I find that it is a great tool.

This video is amazing and changed the way I play piano I've always had a good voice and been able to sing the song in tune but now using this app lets me see what note I'm hitting with my voice and let's me play songs by ear way faster after knowing the root note.
