Whirlpool Oven Door Removal Old Style without hinge lock

preview_player
Показать описание
Circa 2000 whirlpool oven door removal. This whirlpool oven does not have the typical hinge lock that the more recent models have which allow easy removal of the door. This style incorporates a hole which you need to put an Allen key in or a nail to allow it to disengage from the main oven body. It’s very easy and straightforward. Removal of the door will allow easy disassembly of the door and cleaning of the interior glass.

Few updates - I just recently took the lower door off the hinge in order to clean the interior of the glass panels. I had done the upper door in this video. Very easy to do. I used a 16D nail to put in the hole. Cut the nail so that it is about 3/8ths - 4/8ths of an inch long including the head. That allows it to stick into the hole when the door is open and the head keeps it from going through. They have to be short in order to remove the hinge during the glass cleaning process below. If they are too long then you will not be able to get the hinge out of it placement and separate the metal pieces to remove the glass. I cut the nail with some bolt cutters. Once the two nail pieces are in place close the door which pinches the nails and keeps them in place. Instructions from Whirlpool Technical manual
To remove the oven door:
1.Install a pin (nail in this case) in the hole of each oven door hinge hanger.
2.Close the oven door as far as the two pins will allow.
3.Grasp the sides of the door and lift the door until it stops, then pull the hinge hangers out of the slots.

4. With two hands remove and carefully place the door on a table with a towel in place to protect it.

Remove the door handle piece of glass by removing 4 screws. Two are on the top and two are on the bottom. Two of the screws have a small metal bracket that hold the glass in place. Remove that glass/handle piece and clean with windex and towels. Now onto the other piece of glass. Having the short nails will now allow you to remove the 4 screws (2 for each) holding the hinge spring assembly. Remove the screws and gently lift the hinge spring assembly out of the hole. Do this on both sides. The screws are the only screws visible on the inside of the door (right behind the hinge, 2 on each side). The removal of the screws allows the metal plate holding the glass in place. Now the metal frame can be removed and the glass taken out and cleaned. I used a razor to clean the baked on grease. Clean all metal and glass surfaces. Reassemble.

To reinstall the oven door:
1. Grasp the sides of the door and tilt it back at a slight angle, then insert the hinge hangers into the hinge slots as far as they will go.
2. Rotate the top of the door towards the oven so the hinge hangers fit onto the support pins.
3. Close the oven door as far as the pins will allow, and make sure that the hinge hangers are fully seated on the support pins. If they are not seated properly, the door will not close tightly and may be off-center. To seat the hinge hangers, open the door slightly, and push in on the bottom until the hangers are fully seated.
4. Open the oven door to its fully open position and remove the two hinge hanger pins (nails in my case....)
5. Close the oven door completely and check it for proper operation and alignment

I also replaced the upper barrel blower fan for $140. Makes a huge difference in the sound of the oven. Definately worth it if you oven is noisy. Also replaced the thermal inline fuse protecting the circuit panel. This cost $20.

This manual explains a ton on the oven and is well worth the read....

Enjoy!

After finding only videos for newer style ovens, I Family found this one which is exactly how my older oven is. This was a lifesaver and probably save me four to $500 in repair fees. Thank you very much.

Thanks again. I tried it yesterday and got the doors off really easy.
For the people asking about how to put them back. It’s really easy. Just put it back the same way it came out and open the door all the way. The tension comes off the hole and take off the nail.

Condor5635 you are my hero. I was spending way too much trying to remove the door on my 25 year old Superba model. Kitchenaid documents are incorrect. You figures out the allen key and you made my day. All the other web sources were dealing with the latch approach. THANK YOU.

Finally! I have found a video that clearly shows how to get the oven door off of my specific model. All I needed was the secret to the hinge and I will take it from there. Thanks!

Thank you so much!!! I have been tearing my hair out over how to remove my oven door to give it a good clean. My oven is a Fiori but once I saw those holes in the hinges I knew what to do. Thanks again, you are a legend.

Dang brother. I would like to send you a six pack. Your a life saver.
This is the only video I found on this type of door without latches.
Before finding this video I tried all day long to remove it and damaged my door in the process. While putting it back I broke the glass.
I just bought a used model and was going to remove the whole oven cause I was afraid to break them again. Now I can clearly see the whole that keeps the tension to allow you to remove the door. Tomorrow I will try to swap the doors.
Thank you sir!!!

This video didn't give me great confidence in removing and being sure that I could put the door back since the guy actually doesn't remove or put back the door. The best thing anybody looking at this video can do is to instead look the users guide for your oven since that nicely explains everything. What they also tell you is use 5/32" allen wrench keys - short end inserted into the hole that was pointed in the video. That size is the recommended size from Whirlpool. I just finished removing and re-installing today - it is an easy job - I was unnecessarily worried. After cleaning the insides of the oven door, the things looks as good as new!

Procedure as per the manual:

1. Open the door fully
2. Insert small end of the 5/32 Allen Wrench or similar diameter nail into the two holes
3. Grasp the top handle of the door and gently close as far it will shut. Pull door out at the bottom to remove.
4. Instructions don't say this until later - but don't try to remove the Allen wrench at this stage.

To clean the oven door, you need to remove only 4 screws - two on the top edge of the door and two exactly on the opposite edge - the screws that became visible due to door removal. Don't remove the screws from the bottom face of the door. [This is my instruction]

To put the door back:

1. Keeping the door almost vertical, insert the hinge arms into the slots in the frame. Push at lower corner to make sure that they fully engage.
2. Open the door all the way
3. Remove the Allen wrench keys
4. Close the door

I was so worried about door going back - but it was a piece of cake.

So happy I have found your video and was able to remove the door from my ancient KitchenAid wall oven/micro combo. Most videos I have seen are not this kind of hinges. Thank soooo very much.

OMG!! You are my hero! I had the replacement glass arrive today, but every video is about the stupid hinge clip which my model ALSO, does not have! There was NO WAY I WAS GOING TO GIVE UP! Thanks to you.... I just removed the door and now am going to to replace the interior cracked glass. I used those metal pins for meant for holding up shelves, and it was perfect.

Long story short, never, ever, EVER, use the self clean feature (code: for self destructing clean feature) on the double oven. Its rolling the dice for malfunction.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for making this video!!!! YOU
