Killing Eve Season 4 Ending Explained | Episode 8 Recap

We all knew someone would die at the end of Killing Eve. Not just because the show's title is Killing Eve.
The warning signs were there. The 'Til Death Do Us Part speech, the Death tarot card, and Eve's psychiatrist advising her to appreciate the little things in life. Because those little things are about to come to an end.

My opinion, Carolyn should have been offed instead of Konstantin.
It was sad to see Villanelle get killed, she didn't want to be a part of the 12 anymore and wanted a normal life because of Eve. Eve was finally able to express her feelings for Villanelle. Their happiness seemed like it only lasted for a day. I was so rooting for Villanelle and Eve since the first season. Such a disappointing ending.

Can’t believe how unbelievably disappointing this season was! So many reasons:
1. Did they think that the viewers just forgot about scene on the bridge in season 3? Why were Eve and Villanelle suddenly at loggerheads again? They never explained that.
2. The ridiculous drag Jesus, such a stupid idea and added nothing to the story.
3. Introducing soooo many pointless characters whilst treating Eve and Villanelle like secondary characters! Like Pam and the assassin on Gunn island. Pam was honestly insufferable.
4. The pointless phone call between Konstantin and his daughter, what was the point in that if they weren’t going to go anywhere with it.
5. I had no idea what was happening for most of the season, again too many characters. Was Caroline actually part of the 12?
6. Teasing the romance between Eve and Villanelle for the entire 3 seasons for a 10 second kissing scene.
7. The entire season was about the 12, all for Villanelle to kill them all in 30 seconds complete with CGI blood and the viewer never finding out who they are.
8. The catastrophic ending.
Completely lazy writing, they should have had Waller-Bridge at the helm from start to finish.

Insulting ending it was not needed at all. A complete slap in the face to the fans!

sandrah oh is so criminally underrated on her own show. Her acting is amazing and I love how normal she is in the first season compared to the last, it really shows her works influence over her.

In Villanelle’s words the Finale was BOORRRIIINNNG!!!

How could one of the highest rated shows like Killing Eve end with a whimper??? Wonder what Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh’s reactions were when they read the script for this? Bet they were unhappy with it and I wonder what the test audiences reactions were if they were shown this??

Think we all deserve a Reshot Ending where Villanelle survives and she and Eve run off together after killing The Twelve.

Jodie Comer was the second best thing on the show and Phoebe Waller Bridge was the best thing on the show. Everything after season 2 wasn't the same.

Hated the ending. After waiting four years for Eve and Villanelle to finally get together, which they lovingly do, we get sheer disappointment.

The season finale was so infuriating for me because they opened so many characters and plot lines, only to leave the audience at a dead end.
Irrelevant character development that left us hanging:
1) Yusuf
2) Pam (the most interesting useless character, was hoping she would be more vital in the takedown of the 12)
3) Vicar & daughter (totally not worth the 2-3 eps air time)
4) Vlad
5) Lars
6) Irina, Konstantin's daughter (i liked her character in S1 but yup thats abt it)
7) Gunn (who gives a shit abt your village being poisoned omg)

Key supporting characters that i hoped had more airtime:
1) HELENE!!! (They killed her off way too early, she executed her character type sooo well. They casted well.)
2) Martin (i personally took away quite abit from his therapy insights)
3) Konstantin (that matchless guffaw will be missed 😢)

They also spent wayyy too much time on carolyn's character development and background. What makes the audience obsessively hooked on this show is eve & villanelle's chemistry and their relationship progression. They teased us for 3 whole seasons and gave us a 10 second kissing scene at the last ep?? It was wayyy too rushed and left us all very dissatisfied. Petition to have Phoebe come back and redo season 4 please. ok rant over.

Plot holes: Why did Carolyn visit Villanelle at the orphanage when she was 9 yo?

Was Kenny Konstatin's son?

Did Konstatin kill Kenny or have someone do it, or was it an accident?

What was in the letter from K to Carolyn?

How did Carolyn know the meeting location changed? How did she arrange a sniper when she's on the outs with MI6?

So many more. SMH.

Maybe it's just me, but it could have totally been left open for more. Villanelle possibly could have survived that, she's survived worse? The same?
And there's so many things left unanswered. Why did Caroline kill her? What was the point of bringing Constantine's daughter back up, only to have it go nowhere?

I get how Villanelle dying and thereby saving Eve is the right kind of ending from a writers perspective.
BUT... the way the last quarter of the episode progresses, seems somehow sloppy and anticlimactic to me.

3 factors in particular felt so out of place, that they completely broke my immersion.

1) The whole thing about killing the Twelve just all of the sudden is a piece of cake, when 4 seasons long we were told the opposite. All along the story had built up the expectation, that the encounter with and the liquidation of the Twelve, would not only require immense preparation, strategy and cunning but also at least SOME sense of jeopardy and effort. It didn't feel credible enough, even for a show that likes to stretch the boundaries of the realistic every now and then.

2) The bullets that eventually end Villanelles life are being shot several meters through the water of the Thames...
Well... two things about that simply make no sense.
One being, that when a bullet is shot through water, it looses its speed so rapidly, that such an impact might have left a bruise or at best maybe even a broken rib if the laws of physics were to be generous for dramatic effect.
Certainly though, it wouldn't keep on traveling in a straight line puncturing the intended target, instead of sloping downwards while visibly slowing down and eventually bouncing off the target (if said target somehow still were on the bullets altered course, that is).
Also, I fail to see how Caroline manages to aim at AND hit her underwater target. It's the Thames, guys!
A river so dirty that nothing under the surface can be seen even in broad daylight, not to mention AT NIGHT and from the other side of the 250-ish meter (820 ft) wide river bed.

3) We are left with the desperate screams of Eve.
If Villanelles death was supposed to mean anything, its meaning is lost because the viewer is not allowed to see how this sacrifice is meant to benefit Eve to triumph in the end. Instead the viewer is witness to that outcry of helplessness, anguish and despair. The sound of a brutal rupture, a separation so cruel and a loss that cuts so deep, because after their entire gruesome ordeal, they have only just arrived at the beginning of their inevitable connection.
One bloodcurdling scream, there in the water – THE END – no resolution whatsoever. No rising from the ashes, no ace up Eves sleeve, no revenge, no hope, not one more step.

I don't mind when the storytelling intentionally leaves the recipient unsatisfied with an ending. But the decisions that were made for these scenes seemed entirely uncharacteristic and lacked the usual cleverness and sophistication of this otherwise brilliant show.

Need Villaneve!!!

Why spent much time on irrelevant characters ie Pam??? Why can't we have more villanelle and eve? We have been waiting....And this ending is NOT deserving

I can't accept this last episode, especially at the end. It's like an emergency brake. It's really a car accident!

I had a feeling I was going to prefer season 3 as the ending rather than season 4. sadly I was right 😢

I JUST finished watching and I can’t cope I’m still crying lol was that really necessary? I appreciate that killing Eve has never necessarily been a happy show but I would’ve been satisfied with them hugging on that decking at the end, just feels really unrealistic for Carolyn to do that too

You mean: Killing Eve Season 4 Ending DESCRIBED, because explained that shit was not.

Season 1 and 2 were great. For season 3, my partner and I were considering stopping watching... Well, we made it to season 4 and just thought, 'We may as well finish it now as it is the finale.'

My God, That was horrendous.
