Baldur's Gate 3 is a recent example that embodies the essence of an RPG game. There is a variety of classes and races to choose from as the player and the story line is influenced by the choices you make as are NPCs that you meet in the world. There is also a chance system based on which the character will be able to hit enemies based on the stats and skills chosen. How many of these games would fit such a criteria to be called an RPG?

TMNT The Last Ronin, if done correctly, this could be so sick. Dark gritty open world Arkham / Spiderman city with God of War combat style.

53 hours into Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and I haven't reached the wedding yet. I'm loving it. The way people talk to each other sounds like the way people talk to each other, none of the usual rpg trappings with incredibly over the top acting or the stiff jilted conversations you get in Bethesda rpgs, everyone just sounds natural. It makes it so much more immersive that the other night I was playing it and a npc walked past and said hello and without even thinking I automatically replied out loud "hi mate" just like a mental person talking to their tv does. I don't understand how a Czech studio has produced a rpg with more natural sounding English conversations in it than any dev based in an English speaking country has (looking at you Bioware and Bethesda).

I dont mind that a lot of games are soulslike - what i do mind is too many soulslikes that LOOK exactly the same.

The dark, high fantasy aesthetic is just becoming wayyy too saturated in single player action games.

Its like they dont realize you can make a souls-like without it having to look like you ripped off Fromsoft's art direction in addition to their gameplay.

I hate that action-rpg and soulslike are becoming synonymous or interchangeable with "RPG". Falcon legit sounded surprised at the single turn based rpg that shows up on the list 😂
