I've been welding, machining, and fabricating for 45 years and never worked a day in my life. Just woke up and had fun all day and they paid me to do it. There is so much I don't know; but I do know it's been a good life! Thanks for what do for these young folks just starting to have Christmas fellas!

Boilermakers are a tough breed. Heavy hitters with some slug baggage. I miss it at times. Buddy welding, rigging, demo! Such good times. I dont miss trying to crawl my way up and down a tray tower.

BM Local 455! Been a Union BM FOR 30+ years. The trade has allowed me to put 3 daughter's thru college, as well as build a very nice retirement. America works best, when we say Union YES!

Retired Boilermaker out of Local 83, retired at 55 years old, enjoying my pension.
I would recommend joining the Apprenticeship program, The sky is the limit with opportunities.

This is pretty similar to the Votech I went to, we partnered with Ironworkers Local 584. I’ve been in for 7 months and it’s the most badass job ever, there’s no rush like it and I make pretty good money. You definitely gotta be able to travel, 3 months after graduating high school i moved out and had my own place, bought a 2014 Mustang GT with 8k miles, got engaged and having a baby. Long story short It’s definitely a good trade

I used to weld tubes out of Local 263 Memphis in the 70s-early 80s. Trained by TVA [Tennessee Valley Authority] My instructors were former moonshiners so we initially had to learn how a moonshine still worked .Basically those guys had gone from moonshining to working for TVA and were in their 60s when they taught us the trade. Many were in the KKK.I had a lot of fun down south as a young man down there traveling and welding.Wages were good .We were making more than doctors and lawyers at the time.17.85/hr when most the blue collar workers were making 10-12 hr.A 1 gallon milk jug of moonshine was 20 dollars.I remember getting on the elevators with an "A" cloth many a time .Stood for asbestos cloth. To keep the fire from going down thru the grating. Times have changed.

Has our union really become so weak we can't even train our own guys? This is a sad moment for me.

Some foreman are overpaid. Like the useless Pierre Mazerolle who got his job because of his brother and Brandon Tremblay who skipped being a journeyman and went straight to foreman cause step daddy works in the office for aptim. Very unsafe. Alberta, Local 146. Extreme nepotism and they will kick you out for making known the supervisory incompetence.

Remind me again.... isn’t a welder and boilermaker two different trades?
