You could start by using the proper drill lmao, I used to do roofing and we did a lot of sheet metal roofs, never had that issue with an impact driver and a clean bit for the self tappers

With the regular drill bit it spinning left on purpose to loosen so it would have never worked any way and with the magnetic bit it was spinning right

For people saying it was going the wrong direction, the button which changes the direction is in the same position with and without the magnetic bit.
