Aside from being a classic rock song, it is no accident that "Second Hand News" found its place as the first song on Rumours. It is this song that sets the stage for the mood that surrounds Rumours, an album that was created around feelings of hope and heartbreak, resignation and love. Although the uplifting music of "Second Hand News" traps the listener into a world of make-believe happiness, by the end of the song,  Lindsey's painful lyrics and emotional guitar solo transcend the song to the silent emptiness that precedes the next chapter of dreams lost to a world of loneliness.

The first time I heard this song, I had just spoke to an older girl who'd broken up with a guy. She said, "I guess I'm second hand news now." Then, I heard this. I felt better for her after hearing this. IDK why, but I did. I find it awesome how music can change, or at least, adjust my viewpoint on certain things. If I let it.

Rumours is quite possibly the best album I've ever listened to. Every song is of the highest quality, something very few other albums can say as well.

I just listened to the whole Rumors album for the first time in 40 years today (this of course Track 1). Damn. This is one hell of an album. So many of the songs are about others in the band but they just killed it ... why did it take me 40 years

This is a terrific song. Fleetwood Mac is my all-time favorite band. I used to play their cassettes over and over in the 1980s until I wore them out. RUMOURS was the first CD I ever purchased so that I could continue to listen to them and not worry that it would wear out. .
