Sir Keir Starmer has made a U-turn on his remarks on the Gaza siege after his interview with LBC's Nick Ferrari at the Labour Party's conference in Liverpool last week sparked backlash.
During the interview, Ferrari questioned the appropriateness of "cutting off power, cutting off water" as a response to the ongoing atrocity in Gaza, to which Sir Keir responded, "I think that Israel does have that right... It is an ongoing situation."
"Obviously, everything should be done within international law," he added.
His comments ignited strong criticism and calls for him to formally advocate for a ceasefire in the region.
Subsequently, several Labour councillors, including Amna Abdullatif, the first Arab Muslim woman elected to Manchester City Council, Russell Whiting in Colwick, Nottinghamshire, and Mona Ahmed in Kensington and Chelsea, resigned in protest over his remarks.
