What’s really sad is the premise of the ending. Not only did everyone with the exception of few treat him like shit but the fact that he literally had to leave because of how awful people were to him. People are looking to escape this world when in reality this is our home it’s only shitty because of ideals certain people have.

Powder was some sort of angelic being (in the movie), sent to evaluate mankind (in my opinion). Our human reality proved to be too unnatural, dangerously mercurial; and morally dysfunctional for him - any higher being would inevitably find itself ostracized in this place. Here people are rewarded mostly based on their ability to deceive or corrupt, in one way or another. We call those societal rewards: Wealth, Status; or 'Success'.

I know the whole "too good for this sinful world" trope has been around for ages, but man, it still makes me cry when it's done well enough.

This has always been one of the more powerful movies I have seen during my life. I have no movie critic and don't pretend to be. Watching movies, for me, is a difficult process. This one stuck out to me, because due to my lifelong disability, I have always felt like I am a misfit and an outcast. And I'm not exactly a young man anymore. I take a different view of this movie than some of you here. I don't think he was an angel sent by God, and I'm certainly not down with all of the supernatural, corporeal versus non corporeal form and physical versus spiritual aspect that some art applying here. I think his coming into the world in this movie was an accident. The movie clearly illustrates how those who are misunderstood are likewise mistreated and cast out. For me, the ending was a happy one. He got to go back and be with his own kind, as it were. I was happy for him. He was a misfit and he knew it.
