I actually really liked the personification of the Ocean in this book! I thought it was a neat twist, instead of having some Ursula style character. I visualized her emotions as underwater currents, they wouldn't be seen by people above the water, but could be felt by the Sirens in the water. I can understand how people didn't like it though. My best friend had trouble with the personification as well.

Why, so many people have problems with the names of Kiera's books and that's totally the opposite for me. I have no problem pronouncing the names as Indonesians and even the names are pretty familiar to me. hahah

I mean, an opinion is a right. But I TOTALLY disagree. I understood the book perfectly, the personification I thought was brilliant, and Kiera did explain what a siren was (more than once) also Elizabeth? Really? People having unique names was bothersom? If everybody had names like Elizebeth the world would be boring (no offence to people who's names are Elizabeth) but overall I thought this reveiw was a little to critical. And this comment was definetly not meant to be offensive and if this video can be that expressive and no one gets angry then I should be able to also. And I just want to say the outline of this video was very well put together.:)

I loved that the ocean was a character! I mean the ocean is alive, and that she wrote about is as a character was awesome to me. I also felt like she was the sirens god or something like that... or kind of like a mother... I dont know...

Hailey, i haven't watched a lot of your reviews, but I really loved the format of this video. I think it's great how you broke it down in terms of plot, writing, etc.

If you could get your hands on a copy of the original The siren I would encourage you to read that one. I have read the original and it's one of my favourite books ever. All the things that you are saying that you don't like (ie the sisters back story, the oceans personification, the romance) are done in a much different way. In the original the first 80 years are actually the entire first half of the book where as the rewrite skips over them. I also think the original was written for an older audience than the rewrite. I'm only half way through the rewrite but from what I hear the end is entirely different too. (Also the ocean doesn't have dialogue in the first book👌🏻)

can any of you guys recommend some good romance books? Like some without too much sex and cursing, one with a genuine, innocent type of love. (no fantasy or action, just romance and drama)

I have only read the self published edition so I have no clue how different it might (or might not) be from this edition but I really enjoyed it, especially the ending :)
I loved the personification of the Ocean, it was something different and it gave the story something extra :)

OMG The Ocean was so creepy! It often sounded like a psycho! I really couldn't picture how that endless conversations happens. I was like "what are they doing? Are they underwater? HOW IS THIS WORKING???".
I did like Padma and that other one that goes away (don't remember her name). And I liked the differences between the girls based on the time period their first life happened. I wish that was explored more... It was a very fast ready, so it wasn't too painful, but I didn't like it.

I also agree that she should have explained more background at the beginning.

I know you probably get a lot of hate for rating books so low but I really appreciate the honest reviews because I wasn't sure if I was going to read this book or not but now I think I'm gonna pass and read something I might actually enjoy.

I HATED the Ocean. Not the personification, but the character Cass made her to be. Like, Cass tried to make her this sympathetic being, the only of her kind and lonely and such, but she is so SELFISH. Her love is toxic and she never takes a moment to self-reflect and apparently has never self reflected in the thousands of years she's been alive, taking the lives of humans, dragging these girls into her messes, and we're meant to feel bad for her cause Kahlen is making her upset in a "motherly" way. Just ... no. She treats the sirens terribly and they all act like she is so wonderful and motherly and they should all try to sympathize with her and I can't.
It's not enough that she apparently feels sad being a blood thirsty monster or that her favorite girl-toy was taken away. Not for me at least. I found her creepy - especially how she invaded the thoughts of the sirens and threatened them - and I just hated her so much.
UGH.
