Jobs offered the Atari CEO(his boss at the time) a stake in Apple pre macintosh model 1 for a rumoured 50k for 50%

He basically laughed him out of his office. Within 4 years Atari was bust and Apple were off and running.

The brilliance Of Steve Jobs wasn't technology. It was selling technology, Their technology. Didn't matter if that technology was good or not.

When i was 12 i used all my money to buy an OG Ipod touch and everyone at school where impressed of apps that could show a simulated beer on screen and stuff like that. I loved listening to music on it of course and i loved discovering all the games people where making for it's touch screen and gyroscope! I had usb MP3 players before and a MP4 player too but that one was absolute trash XD

You had to admire Microsoft’s sportsmanship.

My friend tried to unload his Apple shares on me at the point it looked like they were bust, they looked junk so I declined and he dumped their elsewhere. If I had them now I could buy a jet … how I laugh

Now I wish Darth Vader with the 501st entered the Apple headquarters in the same way they did on Coruscant.

The success of the iPod was mainly due to the fact Apple addressed the end to end chain of downloading and consuming music. It wasn't so much the small & minimalistic iPod design, but the integration of the iTunes store. The rest of the market were a mishmash of mp3 players and questionable download platforms

Should have

In an alternate universe, marketing lies lost, hence tech won

Hmm Microsoft apps were on the Macintosh since the beginning of the Macintosh, i think you meant they brought internet explorer when Jobs returned. Also, in the early 90s apple was selling loads of macs, in the mid 90s is really where SHTF with the release of windows 95

The iPod. oh. This reminds me of the Betamax (RIP) of music players, the Zune (also RIP) which, in turn, reminds me of the Zune of cell phones, the Windows Phone (RIP hat trick). Oh, the metaphorical tears.

Funny how it seems a lot of people forget about this time in PC history. 😏

It wasn't just Apple's marketing that was bad. They were still selling 80s technology at high prices in the early 90s. PowerPC came along later but they took too long to bring products to market and their brand was already collapsing. They weren't the only ones with this problem. Atari and Commodore both had computers that were great in the 1980s but they couldn't transition into the 90s. Commodore was going to transition to PowerPC, too, but they died before that happened. The Jobs 2.0 era of trendy Macs get a lot of credit for reviving the company, but it was really the iPod and iTunes store that put them back on the map as a headliner tech company. Otherwise they were just a high margin, low volume boutique outlet that sold semi-exotic computers to mostly schools and graphic artists.

I remember criticizing Apple for selling $1000 phones, now I have an $1800 phone and it ain't an iphone.
