I noticed symptoms of dry eye disease on an intermittent basis, especially the irritation and double images in each eye. In my case, I also noticed being irritated under specific conditions that appeared to be related to an unknown irritant in the local environment and avoided exposure.
The issue resolved, exposure reintroducion bringing the issue back over the course of hours. Still trying to figure out what the irritant source is, but have isolated it to a specific location in a common room of the house.
I suspect that the lipid layer depletes over the course of hours. Handwashing after exposure in the afflicted area of the room also resolves the issue, so it's some contaminant on a surface that's difficult to clean. I suspect it's residue from a non-code electrical outlet that melted and spewed smoke that was exceptionally choking and irritating. All similar old work outlets were replaced, with the observation of deficient installation practices and some degree of melting in most.

Over a year my eyes have been blury, itchy and watery so that's explains it. Too bad the practice I'm under is horriblei can't even get a GP to see me.
