All diseases are cruel but Dementia in any form is truly the cruelest & above all when drug companies put money over people they have failed. PERIOD. Thank you WP for posting this.

I saw a story on a study on enbrel in Australia. The shot was givin on the back of the neck. Its a subcutaneous shot so the patient is enclined on their stomach head facing down. And the results were almost instant in helping funtion in Alzheimer's patients in late stages. Its just sad its about sales and not cures or research.

This is proof that a corporation is without any sense of human morality, much less a sense of responsibility and accountability for the citizenry that authorized the formation of the corporation in the first place.

This is a symptom of an extremely dangerous situation: money/$ over life and the alleviation of suffering. Disgusting.

Healthcare and Drug companies SHOULD NOT be privatized! This is utterly disgusting to see. The lack of humanity is far beyond.

Enbrel, he says, as though Enbrel is a harmless drug. These biologicals have 500, 000 adverse events and 37, 000 of those were deaths. People who take them can suffer horrible side effects, death directly caused by the drug, and as the advertising says, "may be helped". So incurring that kind of risk to prevent Alzheimer's would cause more deaths and suffering than Alzheimer's alone.

Ah glorious capitalism, it's motto should be "idgaf about anyone if I can't make a dollar"

One way to put it would be that they didn't pursue it "because there was no profit in it."  Another way to put it would be that they would have lost money on the prospect.

To be fair, it's a *long* way from some promising results in the lab to an FDA-approved drug.

So what happens now that we know this? New drug?

Any person or entity is more than welcome to pay for a clinical trial to measure the effect that enbrel has in the development or progression of Alzheimer’s. Might even make a good candidate for an NIH sponsored study. That would be a good use of our public tax dollar. Any takers?

The workers pushing for medical trials should've just leaked the info to the public.
I would have.

To many indians in this world; not enough chiefs.

I don't think people understand all the work, cost, time and effort involved from the lab to an FDA approved drug.

Meaning of talking to my mom my mom is in her early 50s she couldn't remember our dog's name my mom bought my dog when I graduate from college and moved out on my own and she loved that dog she's told me that she starting to forget things and if these people have a cure for Alzheimer's it is morally unethical to not pursue that.

We live in a world abundant with technology to the point where our society is actually starting to transition away from the uses monetary exchange two more sci-fi Star Trek s kind of worldfor automation and it's on the second ology replaces the need to use monetary exchange and for human labor to continue to exist in a way I think this is a great idea because then we can finally start solving the problems that need to be solved without money standing in the way of progress

It's the governments fault for not allowing longer exclusivity rights. Clinical trials are extremely expensive, and they probably have a version of that drug in the pipeline right now for alzheimer's.
