Sometimes police will publicly rule out a person but they are actually very suspicious of them. They are needing to work them in some way to draw the truth out of them. I recall the Susan Smith case in South Carolina who murdered her two sons rolling the car into the lake. The police acted for all the world like her story of carjacking was legit and a manhunt was on, but they actually strongly suspected her from the start.

The fact that the roommates called other friends before calling the cops seem odd to me. They said that they called their friends thinking one of the victims was unconscious and wasn’t waking up? Did they not see blood? There is something weird going on here and the cops are hiding it.

Small university towns downplay crimes so that the students and parents don't panic. That is what they have tried to do but failed because common sense tells everyone they are still in danger until the person is arrested. College is big business for small towns.

The best way to prevent a suspect from panicking or fleeing is by allowing the suspect to believe they are not a suspect.
Media often times tries too hard. So much information on this planet is "need to know" information. Meaning one must obtain other prior information before learning new information in order to make rational sense of the new information.

I live about 2.5 hours from Moscow, we have at least 5 unsolved deaths in this area. That's several for a rural population. One of the survivors stated, one of the victims weren't waking up/unresponsive. How could they not see the blood?
