Solve multi-step ratio and percent problems using proportions
In this lesson you will learn how to solve multi-step ratio and percent problems by using proportions.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
STANDARDS
CCSS.7.RP.A.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.
TEKS.6.4.H convert units within a measurement system, including the use of proportions and unit rates.
TEKS.7.4.E convert between measurement systems, including the use of proportions and the use of unit rates.
TEKS.7.4.D solve problems involving ratios, rates, and percents, including multi-step problems involving percent increase and percent decrease, and financial literacy problems; and
TEKS.G.7.B apply the Angle-Angle criterion to verify similar triangles and apply the proportionality of the corresponding sides to solve problems.
TEKS.A1.2.D write and solve equations involving direct variation;
TEKS.8.12.D calculate and compare simple interest and compound interest earnings;
TEKS.6.5.B solve real-world problems to find the whole given a part and the percent, to find the part given the whole and the percent, and to find the percent given the part and the whole, including the use of concrete and pictorial models; and
TEKS.6.5.A represent mathematical and real-world problems involving ratios and rates using scale factors, tables, graphs, and proportions;
TEKS.7.13.E calculate and compare simple interest and compound interest earnings; and
TEKS.7.13.A calculate the sales tax for a given purchase and calculate income tax for earned wages;
TEKS.7.5.C solve mathematical and real-world problems involving similar shape and scale drawings.
IN.7.C.6 Use proportional relationships to solve ratio and percent problems with multiple operations, such as the following: simple interest, tax, markups, markdowns, gratuities, commissions, fees, conversions within and across measurement systems, percent increase and decrease, and percent error.
VA.CE.7.3 The student will solve single-step and multistep practical problems, using proportional reasoning.
VA.CE.7.2 The student will solve practical problems involving operations with rational numbers.
VA.CE.8.4 The student will solve practical problems involving consumer applications.
VA.MG.7.5 The student will solve problems, including practical problems, involving the relationship between corresponding sides and corresponding angles of similar quadrilaterals and triangles.
VA.S.AII.10 The student will represent and solve problems, including practical problems, involving inverse variation, joint variation, and a combination of direct and inverse variations.
FL.MAFS.7.RP.1.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.
