Tony, you and Chelsea can never quit doing videos. Y'all are the best camera/photography channel on YouTube. Bought your Stunning Digital Photography ebook a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it so far. Thank you and Chelsea for all of your hard work, awesome videos, and wonderful writing. I look forward to more in the future. God bless.

A lodestar for other camera reviewers and educators to follow. Always excellent and lucid analysis.

Hi Tony, When taking portrait shots, try using AF-C, Face recognition (eye), and focus area set to wide. With this setting, I can easily nail focus even when shooting with the FE70-200 G set to 200mm f4 hand held. You shouldn't have taken so many miss focused shots in this video. With the Sony, you have to be more committed to it and actually learn the different focus settings for different situations. 😉

Keep up the great content Tony 🙏 you are indeed my favorite photography channel to watch because you are so detailed in everything you explain.

Sony's claim of higher resolution in this new lens line is encouraging because, as Tony has noted in the past, Sony's previous zooms are almost universally less sharp than the competition. I really hope the 70-200/2.8 is closer to Canon and Nikon's version than to Sony's A-mount version, but I'm worried based on the dual-focusing groups and 32 elements! Regardless, I'm fairly certain I'll be buying that lens, so please go easy Sony :`(

Just a few criticisms of the video (and people's comments in general) because I can't resist: 1 These prices (for the 24-70 and 80) are completely in line with the competition because the ones you're comparing to are no longer new and have received discounts by now. 2 Tony man, you focused on his foot. Really? Please try to do a little better when you're at an event like this. And you can't blame the camera for that. Though I am curious how continuous eye-AF (you were using single shot I assume) will work with the 85 wide open. 3 Yes the 24-70 is not stabilized in-lens but to put it next to the competition and label it "not stabilized" doesn't really tell the story. I get it though - minor gripe.

You forgot about the Mitakon 85mm f1.2, which is native to the E-mount. It's supposed to be about as good as the Canon 85mm f1.2 for only $800, but it's going be tough to manually focus. Not much use to a fast lens that's sharp wide open if you can't get focus.

are you going to compare the 70-200 f2.8 fe with 2x teleconverter vs sony 100-400 f 5.6 fe like you did with canon

@1:58: Sony-Zeiss 24-70 OSS actually is stabilized

If mount would be same for all manufactures, this lens price would be less than 1000$. There prices are sick😤😤😤

Anytime I see someone mention the Sony's AF getting the wrong subject and DON'T mention trying lock on AF I just shake my head. As soon as you tell it which object you want it's DONE. It follows it for good until you turn it off. No moving points around and jazz. Great rundown though. Can't wait to try some lenses!

Great ! But how about another video comparison in between Sony FE gmaster 24-70 2.8 VS the Sony zeiss FA 24-70 2.8 ?

I have the batis and considered there for a minute about selling it for this new g master 85 but I'm not convinced f1.4 is $600 difference worth paying. I have the original a7r and eye autofocus nails it about 80% of the time at f1.8, I think the a7rii with superior focus system should easily focus using eye af. Use flexible spot small and set the centre button to standard so that's one press and you can move the spot, it's not a hassle especially when it's in the centre of the dial wheel you use to move the flexible spot.

Tony, thank you so much for making videos like these! I've really enjoyed your channel lately; you have so much great insight.

I wish to point out that even a lens which does not shorten its focal length as you focus closer may still have focus breathing, because a change of field of view is an inherent property of focusing, even for a standard lens design like a Planar 50/1.4. However, my experience with the A-mount 70-300/4.5-5.6 G SSM had been surprisingly good. It is as if the lens was designed specifically for video. Let's hope this G Master 70-200/2.8 is no different.

To be honest, I am bought on the 24-70mm and 70-200mm so far. The 85mm to me doesn't beat the amazing Batis enough to warrant a buy unless you do video.

A own the lens a few days, but saw something strange. When using AF-C, (in foto modus), the green ring + point says: "ready to fotograph", but you see in the viewer or on the screen, that the AF is still "hunting".That dures about 2 seconds. When you shoot, the photo is 100% sharp. Why does the "hunting" not stop?Is that normal?

Hi Tony, Thank you so much for these reviews! Super helpful, clear and enjoyable to watch. At the end of September you tweeted about how great the 70-200 2.8GM was and that a review would be out in a few weeks. I wondered where to see that review? I can't find it here but am eager to see it. i did get one and wonder if I got a bad copy as I haven't been super impressed and wondering about that vs the Canon 70-200 f2.8. Thanks so much!

85mm is my favorite & which camera/lenses and editing color setting you used for this video

i agree that 70-200 f2.8 is more easy to use with portrat photos, but 85mm 1.4 give mor bokeh than 200mm at 2.8, or not? i think that is better for portrait photos! :D

I'm planning to sell my Canon 5D mark III and buy Sony a7R II. Would it be better to keep my Canon 24-105 L lens and use it with Metabones adapter on Sony camera instead of Sony 24-70 F4, which I heard is not very sharp? I also have Canon 17-40 F4 lens which I like very much and plan to use it on Sony a7R II
