I say the economy is at a bad state right now. Groceries are almost 30% higher since Covid, gas prices are up, rents are outrageous, etc... In my opinion, the politicians are looking at data and saying economy had improved. Us regular working citizens are living the reality and it's just getting worst. Companies are still paying wages from twenty years ago, and most of us can't afford to live and feed our .

The unemployment number is a complete sham. They don’t count people who are long term unemployed or have given up in this bracket (U3). This has been a joke since ‘94 when they created the U6, which DOES include those number. The real number is what you get when you add the two, which is NEVER reported and always around 2-3x higher.

Retail sales went up only because kids started going back to school. It wasn’t a surprise that’s how they manipulate the numbers and supplies cost double now.

An inflationary depression. Lots of money moving around and increasing currency supply gives illusion of growth while purchasing power of average people declines.

The problem is I don't believe our gov is giving us real numbers. The reason I say that is I use my own eyes and ears. In my town, I have seen a bunch of businesses closing. If they're are not giving us real numbers then how are we to to know to plan?

The economy is in a bad place. The jobs that are available are low paying and not desirable. Inflation has been so high everything is too expensive. Housing is unaffordable. The stock market has been good but that only really benefits people who already have money.

The problem with unemployment rate, that 4.3% is that's the unemployment that has been reported, realistically, it's more around the ballpark of 14 to 20% if the unreported ones are counted

Everyone is lying about jobs, I have many friends who work in HR and they say there are phantom jobs, and that it is used to show that the company is still growing. It is truly a shame.

There should be a metric for quality of employment. We have lost so many high paying career jobs replaced with low paying work and gig jobs.

The first problem is the data that we are getting is not accurate. Trying to determine the state of the economy when the data itself is flawed is not good. 2ndly the government spending has been the main driving for the economy along with jobs growth has been mostly government. The government does not produce anything and is a net negative over all for any economy. We see this through inflation, goods shortages, corruption, mismanagement of taxes and debt...etc.

As you have stated about government spending going up this effects the US GDP which makes it look like the US is growing economically but in reality it's just government spending mostly on military and other needs that don't benefit the average citizen or the private economy.

So overall the economy is in an artificial bubble that is going to pop soon... it's only a matter of when.

Government spending is completely irrelevant and does not count as gdp. Idc what they want to call it. Government spending is always bad.
