7 Different Types of Poems, Forms, and Formats

#HaikuPoems
It is a three-line poem with a 5/7/5 syllable count. The form of Haiku consists of beauty and simplicity of nature. For example, “Sick on a Journey” by Basho.
Free Verse
Free verse is the least defined types of poems. There is no particular form or format for free verse. For example, “This is Marriage” by Marianne Moore.
Epic Poems
These are long narrative poems that tell the story about #heroes or #adventures. For example, “The Song of Hiawatha” by Henry Wadsworth.
Ballad
Ballad poems are similar to epic poetry, but they based on a legend or a folk tale. For example, “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” by Oscar Wilde.
Acrostic
These types of poem spell out names or words with every first letter in each line. For example, “Alexis” by #NicholasGordon.
Sonnets
The word “Sonetto” is Italian, which means “a little sound or song.” But Sonnet Poems was termed by William Shakespeare. For example, “Sonnet 116” by William Shakespeare.
Cinquains
A five-line poem by Japanese Haiku. There are different variations of this type of poetry in America. For example, “To Helen” by Edgar Allan Poe
