I used to think Technics was a cheap high value brand but they abandoned the low end line and made themselves a proper high mid class brand and I kind of appreciate that because they made the best low end gear that deserved more prestige.

Okay, so I don't have an internet connection where I am, I'm as far from civilization as one can be... All those streaming features are useless in my application... Although I do keep all my music on the SD card in my phone which could make use of the Bluetooth function but then again I could possibly for less money get a large JBL Bluetooth speaker for the same money if not less ....
I get what Technics is trying to do... It's basically what everyone is trying to do and that's to appeal to the masses... That's where the money is! No one is worse at this than Sony! The amount of amazing equipment that Sony has released that most people have never even seen let alone know that it actually existed is astounding... They just put it out there and if there's demand, then it stays but if it doesn't take off running it gets dropped... You can see on their website, have a look at what audio equipment they have in their portfolio... They are literally out of every single this that they have brought to market, the very things that made the Sony brand iconic are all nothing more than history now...
Technics is still there hanging on, Yamaha seems to be staying true to its audio heritage... Music production and reproduction... I have loved the Technics equipment ever since I first noticed it in the early 80's but lately I have been taking a closer look at what Yamaha has done and what it's doing and I don't understand why I never considered Yamaha before... I mean this company has tried just about anything and everything when it comes to audio....
I have already begun to replace my Sony ES equipment with Yamaha equipment and I'm finding that it's better than I expected and gives me what I want and need... My Technics system is feeling nervous at the moment... It has every right to be...

what i really would like to have is a bus based audio center that is more or less an empty case with a big display on the front and nice knobs.
it should have a motherboard with an open bus standard system where you can plug in different cards for your needs. e.g. a cheap fm tuner card or an expensive dab+ card. cheap analog signal cinch output for 15€ or a high end output card with cinch and balanced xlr. a cheap analog mm phono pre or a high end mm/mc pre card., a cheap power supply or a high end power supply. digital input card with 2 cinch and 2 optical inputs or a card with 4 cinch digital inputs. or two inputs and two digital outputs. a cheap 2 channel dac-card or 5 channel, or high end dac. a wireless / streaming card, different companies who produce these cards. a dsp card for room correction.
at the end such a system lasts practically forever because you can adapt it. more or less a hifi tower with your own choice of components adapted by the user for his very individual needs. but shrinked down in one center case.
