Installing Foam Board Insulation (in a shed)

Converting a shed into a home office doesn’t take a lot. The space is small so foam board insulation is a great option. Fill all gaps with spray foam and you’re good to go. You could also go with a she shed or man cave.

I think it's backwards. When you put a heater in the garage the reflective side will radiate the heat energy back into the room space..

I have this inside my wooden shed, and they work pretty great. In the summertime it doesn’t get too hot on the inside. If however, I happen to be inside of the shed on a hot day, because of my body heat it traps that heat in. So essentially this keeps any heat that is coming from the inside of the shed and retains it. It’s a pretty cool product. With no one inside of the shed, it keeps it pretty cool. I definitely wouldn’t go inside my shed, though in the summertime even with this insulation up. It’ll get hot fast.

Should have installed them the other way or left an air gap so the radiant barrier could work.

Only thing that should have been done differently is placing the glue in a vertical pattern so if any moisture does penetrate, it can flow down and out rather being trapped by the horizontal zigzags.

Do you have to put it in between the two by fours or can you just put it on top and nail/glue it on

We have a 16x36 portable building and need now to insulate the floor. Can this be used underneath the buildings floor? Sure looks like more fun than pink insulation!

How much of a difference has that made?

Does it matter what’s side you place outward? R-TECH or silver?

Did you have to leave gaps on the roof for ventilation?

So are you just installing those foam boards and that's it do you put any rockwool insulation on top of that or is that overkill

We were poor in 1960's and lived in a W. W.1 house no insulation in the walls, now if you need to use insulation in inside walls to any old house, spray paint the 4 by 8 foot sheets but on inside walls, it's so much more warmer, and in summer a.c runs less

So i'm planning on doing this in my ceiling (no attic) in my office, and I was going to do about a 1 inch air gap, then 1 inch foam board with the shiny side facing up towards the roof, and follow that with R13 rolled insulation then drywall. Any issues with that? I'm just a DIY guy.

In case you did go for the air gap, how would one go about ensuring the board was not pushed all the way in?

I bought myself a small 4 x 8 wooden shed recently. It’s a lean to Shed. I’m going to use the same brand, Rtech and it’ll have an r value of R.5.78. Right now during the daytime in the summertime it gets super hot inside my shed. I hope that adding all these on the walls and the ceiling will make a dramatic difference during the middle of the day. Also, what about winter time? I live in Northern California so it gets kind of chilly but it doesn’t ever get freezing cold. I assume in the winter time, it will be comfortable inside the shed?

Don't caulk like that. The lines will prevent water from properly moving around to dry out. Do phat coins of caulk instead.

the whole point of rigid foam board is to go on the outside of the timber framing, you'd need to rip your facade and that OSB crap off, put the rigid foam board on the outside, then re-clad the structure. Which is why you should plan from the start. if you don't want to do that and just put things between the frame, you should use bats or rock wool, or even spray foam possibly. Also, you've put those foiled rigid boards on the wrong way around, silver side faces in, print side is meant to be visible on the outside of the building (as its meant to go on the outside of the frame before you do anything else). this was a waste of money.

Is that all you put in or did you fiberglass over it

They wanted $2200 to install insulation before i had them install the shed 10'x18'

I was like, I dont think so. I can probably do this under $500 with a few razor blades and some glue 🤷🏻‍♂️
