A fun song I wrote to teach the concept of counting-on to my early elementary math students. Hope you enjoy, and keep up the great education!

LYRICS
My dog’s counting on,
My dog’s name is Counting On,
Count, count, count, count, counting on,
He loves counting on!

Dad got me a dog,
We named him counting on,
And he taught me to count,
ALL DAY LONG!
Then my doggy said count,
But don’t start with one,
It’s called counting on,
And counting on’s lots of fun!
My doggy gave me 3 cookies,
Then he gave me 3 more,
He asked, how many cookies are there?
And I really, really, wasn’t, wasn’t, very, very sure!
My dog said count,
But don’t start with one,
You gotta’ count on,
‘Cause counting on is fun!
Now let me count the cookies,
But what’s the best way?
Do I start with one?
Dog said, no, not today!
We’re all counting on, counting on’s the way!
Listen to me and repeat what I say!
3 cookies on this side,
As you can see,
So we won’t start with one,
Or on 2, or on three!
Count on from 3,
So you’re starting from 4,
Count on from 3,
And then count the three more!
4-5-6
Let me here you say, 4-5-6
We counted on!
4-5-6
Let me here you say, 4-5-6
We counted on!
CHORUS

My doggy gave me 5 donuts,
Then he gave me 3 more,
He asked how many donuts are there?
And I really, really, wasn’t, wasn’t, very, very sure!
My dog said count,
But don’t start with one,
You gotta’ count on,
‘Cause counting on is fun!
Now let me count the donuts,
But what’s the best way?
Do I start with one?
Dog said, no, not today!
We’re all counting on,
Counting on’s the way!
Listen to me and repeat what I say!
There’s 5 donuts here,
In front of your eyes,
So never start with one,
When you know you have five!
Count on from 5,
Not from six or from 4,
Count on from 5,
And then we count the three more!
6-7-8
Let me here you say,
6-7-8
We counted on!
6-7-8
Let me here you say,
6-7-8
WE counted on!

Lesson
One way you can add two small numbers is by counting on,
Instead of always counting from 1 you can start with the greater number,
For example if you have to add 4 and 3,
Start with the larger number, 4, and then count on 3 more
5, 6, 7
And that’s counting on!

Dog rolled 2 dice for our favorite game,
And these were the dice,
And they both showed the same,
I knew they were sixes, I knew by the dots,
How many dots were there? I think there were lots!
I knew more then six,
But what number was more?
I really, really, wasn’t, wasn’t, very, very sure!
Well my dog said count,
But don’t start with one,
You gotta’ count on,
‘Cause counting on is fun!
Now let’s count dots,
But what’s the best way?
Do I start on the one?
Dog said, no, not today!
We’re all counting on,
Counting on’s the way!
Listen to me and repeat what I say!
There’s 6 dots on this die,
Six is the trick,
So don’t count from one,
If you want to count quick!
Count on from 6,
Not from 5, or from 4,
Count on from 6,
And let’s count the six more!
7-8-9,
Then we count
10-11-12
We counted on!
7-8-9
Then we count
10-11-12
We counted on!
