Track #2 from The Sound's 1981 album From The Lion's Mouth

Reissued in 2002 by Renascent Records.

Lyrics:

Look in my eyes
See the lust and the love
Look in my eyes
When I'm talking to you
I'll take my life
Into my own hands
I'm the one that I will blame
I'm the one that understands

What are we gonna do?
While we've still got the strength to move
What are we gonna do?
I'm asking, I'm asking you

A call to arms, a call to use arms
A call to brains, a call to use some brains
A call to the heart, a call to have a heart
To have a sense of purpose again

Are we where we want to be
All wrapped up in our safety?
Comfort and complacency
It hurts me, it hurts me

What are we going to do?
While we've still got the strength to move
What are we going to do?
I'm asking, I'm asking you

The structure of the beginning alone is enough to consider this band the greatest in Post-Punk. How the bass, then the drums, then the guitar and then Adrian's voice starts is inimitable. Perfect balance between atmosphere and rawness.

Best band of Dark wave. Incredibly not recognized.
I think they're most important of other great bands, like Cure, Siouxie, Joy Division, Bauhaus and many others. Ideas, compositions, autenticity, arrangements, execution clearness. Unique.

Powerful, raw, emotional and vaguely threatening. Adrian's emphasis on personal agency here is very unique in my opinion. He can't make the decision for you, but he can encourage you to take whatever measures available and improve your lot in life.

"What are we gonna do? I'm asking, I'm asking you."

We've all been there, and it's up to us to pull ourselves out. Channel that frustration and do something about it!

One of the best post-punk albums of all time. Borland always sang with conviction on every song.

an all time classic track. gets better with every listen. dark, urgent - and yet still packs a great pop hook. Is there a more criminally underrated 80s band?

Although their musical journey was not a commercial success, Nevertheless The Sound were such a creative and talented band in constant evolution, through their musical legacy we discovered their creativity, a distinctive sound among their compositions, poetry from the heart and musical greatness. It cannot be denied that they belong among the best bands of the 80s.

What are we gonna do?
