Is it morally ok to be this rich and still have your workers borrowing money to survive…

I'm shocked that a car maker wants everyone to drive to work.

My girlfriend is just looking for another job because she can only work remotely one week per month and some months not even that. She literally needs to go to the office to connect remotely to Citrix servers located in Germany and sometimes talk on Teams to people in China and Morocco for 8 hours a day. The fact that they can't let their people work from home, when all they do is to work remote connecting from the office is a lack of respect of their people. Many of her colleagues are leaving and soon she will also leave.

The real answer is it depends. If you have an office 50 miles away (so 100 miles round trip) and the rest of your team is 100’s of miles away, what is achieved by travelling to sit in an office where you won’t work with anyone other than on Teams calls, whiteboarding etc.

Fair enough if your team needs to be in the same location then do it but it depends on circumstances. Moral issues - give me a break.

its depressing that people glorify this man like some sort of genius.

Two lessons here:

0. WFH is something you can do if it works and not if it doesn't. Not a moral issue, just practical.
1. Elon Musk is very, _very_ weird.

This man has BILLIONS of dollars while I'm sitting here hungry and living paycheck to paycheck but he's talking about what's morally right

Being against working from home is a red flag for power trips. If your job can be accomplished remotely, then do it remotely and use coming to the office as a morale event.

I mean shit... software companies only feed people to keep them in the office all day. The last startup I worked for saw productivity increases from the pandemic *and* they saved a bunch of money from not feeding us

Plus everything was over slack ANYWAY even though we sat in an open office 2 feet away from each other 😂😂😂😂

I like that the muskrat is against remote working, it just shows that it's a good idea.

Even our state agencies, that are notorious for their low pay, have started using wfh where possible as a retention tool or as a benefit to get new hires. And it is working.

The gentleman is addressing exactly why Im pissed at Musk for being so heartless. To do my job, my commute was never less than 3 hours a day and I spent all my time in a cubicle with little human interaction and dating coworkers was frowned upon. During times I had no car, I had to take a variety of buses and trains and taxis to keep my jobs. During some times traveling I was injured, robbed, and assaulted. So Musk .... I'm morally wrong for not wanting the gaggle of lunatics you lead to have an opportunity to further introduce harm into what would normally be a serene life?

Elon Musk : Why can engineers work from home but firefighters can’t?

Me: Why can’t we eat the privileged rich?

The companies that are so insistent on workers needlessly coming back into the office are the same companies that will complain about their workers completing exactly what their paid to do, too fast. “Well I pay you for 8 hours so I expect you to work the full 8 hours.” They want to make sure that they always get the better end of any deal.

It depends on the biz too.
Is an office really needed for some?
When u bought a house or inquired, did the realtor meet you at the homes or their office?
When was the last time u walked into ur insurance agent's office? Or how many times in last 2-5 yrs

We the people who has to physically go to work don't really gaf. I am in a industry that requires me to be physically at location and i am ok with that.

You can't be a truck driver from home. You can do some jobs at home and it makes sense for them to work remotely. Nothing wrong with that
