Waterfall Swing - World Maker Faire

Created by Andrew Ratcliff, Mike O'Toole, Ian Charnas, and Andrew Witte.
A project of Dash 7 Design.

How the Waterfall Swing Works:
Water recirculates through 273 independently controlled solenoid valves at the top of the structure to create a wall of water. This water starts from a collection pool on the ground and is pumped up to a large pipe that feeds the solenoids. Sensors mounted on the swingset gather information about the angle and speed of each swing. That information is sent to a computer that predicts the action of the rider. The computer then creates a hole in the wall of water, allowing the rider to swing through without getting wet.

All you people that are saying this wastes water, have you even read the caption?! It says specifically that the water RECIRCULATES so it doesn't waste that much water

This is DELIGHTFUL! I think it captures the playfulness that we all have within us, bringing forward that lovely magic we had as children and adding something even more. Thank you!!

You're right! I've never seen a swing that wasn't falling apart before. How novel and unique that would be!

To make it exciting, once every 300 swings or so at a random time, it should keep the water going so you get wet. Then you swing beside someone and see who gets wet first.

Good invention, no point in having one of these here in Scotland though, we would only be able to use it for 2 days out of the year. jk ☺

That 1:33 is more impressive and entertaining than anything reality tv can offer.

This actually would be useful. In areas where it is hot children will be able to swing and the waterfall would constantly cool the air around the swing making it a decent temperature for them to play outside.
