After everything she has been through, the one place where she thought she would be completely safe, turned out to be just like what she was running from. This scene was just terrifying.

During the war people are losing innocence and integrity in order to survive but this whole situation made me sick to my stomach.

I haven't seen Season four yet, but everywhere are little hints that "Mayday" never existed.

Any woman who has ever been labelled as a "whore" or a "slut" can relate to this scene, some can relate more than others sadly.

In this scene the red handmaid's outfit is a physical representation of having the slut reputation in your community, i.e. at work, your social group, school/college, etc.

That man didn't care about her story, did not know anything about her, all he knew was that she was a handmaid, i.e. someone else (Gilead in this case) has categorised her as a slut. Therefore in his mind she must have acted in "slutty" ways otherwise she wouldn't have become a handmaid.

This very much echo's how society treats women who are labelled as "sluts". It strips womens wider identity away, many people no longer treat her with the same dignity and respect that she had before the "slut" reputation.

How no matter what she does, no matter how intelligent she is, what else shes achieved, what her ambitions are, what her hobbies are/ interests/other good qualities as a person are/ etc become secondary to the "slut" label.

The "slut" label becomes the womans whole identity in society's eyes, which sooner or later becomes how she sees herself as well.

If people put you down for long enough you end up believing what they say about you.

To any woman who casually slut shames another woman, no matter the reason, perhaps due to a rivalry between them, consider how it could potentially ruin her life.

Consider that by doing that, you are essentially supporting the patriarchy, which isnt good for any woman as one or a few wrong turns or simply a change in circumstances can put you in that same category
